I used to watch Captain Planet every morning. I don't remember anything about communism. There was a whole bunch of nonsense about respecting and preserving nature.

Gaia worshiping nonsense.   **nononono*

REALLY??
Will you accept responsibility for all the fires in CA? Becaue it is folks like you, who believe this kinda crap that make it happen.

What is it that you think I believe exactly? I've openly stated that it was stupid to put the Californian loggers out of business. Loggers in the U.S plant trees so the forests are able to regrow. That's not what is happening to the Amazon. They are doing permanent damage and it's only going to get worse.

Howabout you leave these things to the folks who live there, and know a thousand times more than you about that forest.

The locals that agree with me are being murdered once they get too noisy.

What state do you live in (other than a state of denial)?
Unless you live on the Great Plains, you would realize that forests need to be cleared in order to form farmland and grazing for animals that feed people. right?

I love this article.  It's from 2002 and I keep referring back to it because it has such great information:

Quote
Like people everywhere, Indians survived by cleverly exploiting their environment. Europeans tended to manage land by breaking it into fragments for farmers and herders. Indians often worked on such a grand scale that the scope of their ambition can be hard to grasp. They created small plots, as Europeans did (about 1.5 million acres of terraces still exist in the Peruvian Andes), but they also reshaped entire landscapes to suit their purposes. A principal tool was fire, used to keep down underbrush and create the open, grassy conditions favorable for game. Rather than domesticating animals for meat, Indians retooled whole ecosystems to grow bumper crops of elk, deer, and bison. The first white settlers in Ohio found forests as open as English parks—they could drive carriages through the woods. Along the Hudson River the annual fall burning lit up the banks for miles on end; so flashy was the show that the Dutch in New Amsterdam boated upriver to goggle at the blaze like children at fireworks. In North America, Indian torches had their biggest impact on the Midwestern prairie, much or most of which was created and maintained by fire. Millennia of exuberant burning shaped the plains into vast buffalo farms. When Indian societies disintegrated, forest invaded savannah in Wisconsin, Illinois, Kansas, Nebraska, and the Texas Hill Country. Is it possible that the Indians changed the Americas more than the invading Europeans did? "The answer is probably yes for most regions for the next 250 years or so" after Columbus, William Denevan wrote, "and for some regions right up to the present time."

"According to Greenpeace Brazil, the figures mean approximately 1.185 billion trees were brought down."

Not sure I buy the 1.3 billion trees.

It makes me sad that one day people will only be able to see this stuff in old videos because humans destroyed the entire natural world.

I have never seen a tiger in the wild. I wouldn't go anywhere near a 600 pound cat. I also think they're beautiful though, and I don't want humans to destroy them and their habitats forever.

Your fears are greatly misplaced. I cannot say much about Brazil, but I can tell you about the Great Taiga Forest that circumnavigates the northern hemisphere, and the part of it I live in. You simply can't log it off. By the time you got to the other end of right here, the end you started at would be mature forest again.

I think you really have no idea how big this land is.
And the same, no doubt, applies to the Amazon.

This crap is designed to get you in a tizzy... To the point that for the sake of one dumbass owl, you are willing to shut off logging in the entire west.

Except it wasn't hoomins that was killing of that dumbassed spotted owl or destruction of his habitat - it was the gray owl that was doing it, and couldn't get it done anyway. SO for the sake of absolutely nothing, the logging industry is ~gone~ and the forests burn instead.

For chastising us for not caring enough about our own country to pay more taxes, you sure have a lot invested in telling people on another continent what to do with their own ground.

@Dexter
No, like I said, the resource is infinite. Way more of it burns that we take out of it, or will ever take out of it. And yet, here it still is. Like I said, you have no idea. 20 miles from here the paving ends, and most of hoomanity is gone... another 80 miles and the gravel ends, and you are in wilderness. And it goes on and on and on. I have been wandering back in there long enough to go native, never having seen another hoomin the whole time... It is way past big. It is way past huge. and it is largely untouched, and very likely always will be. And that is just Montana. Start talking Alaska and you can easy triple that.

You don't know a damn thing what you are talking about.

That is a pretty one-sided way of looking at things...
Come on up here and start telling folks what they can and can't do on their own land... taking food out of the bellies of their kids... See how well you are received.

. The animated series was co-created by media mogul Ted Turner, a noted environmentalist."

He's an environmentalist as long as it doesn't impact his lifestyle.

I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

And nature never recovers, right? You realize that the heavily forested area around Lake Tahoe was almost completely decimated by logging for the the gold and silver mines and recovered in less than a hundred years, the devastation to forests caused by the eruption of Mount St. Helens is well on the way to recovery? Man can try, but in reality for all his trying he amounts to no more of a nuisance to the Earth than a pimple on Gaia's ass. If only we were great stewards like the American Indian, stampedeing herds of Buffalo over cliffs for easier hunting or setting fire to plains, there was a reason why the Indians were nomads.
