If you have not noticed, the progressive socialist left does a really good job of dismissing minority conservatives, especially black conservatives. Don’t believe me? Just take a trip through the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC and see how much is said about Justice Clarence Thomas, Thomas Sowell, Walter Williams, Shelby Steele, General Colin Powell, or Condoleeza Rice. As a matter of fact, Rutgers University uninvited Condoleeza Rice, asserting that she was not accomplished enough to be their commencement speaker . . . yet, they had Snooki as a commencement speaker.
The writings and thoughts of early black conservatives like Frederick Douglass and Booker T. Washington are all but forgotten. That is one reason why I have partnered with the Texas Public Policy Foundation (TPPF) to establish the Booker T. Washington Initiative. And why TPPF re-released the famous autobiography of Booker T. Washington Up from Slavery, for which I was honored to write an updated foreword. You can order a copy here.
See, if there is one thing that the left wants, it is the “herd mentality†that is evidenced by the young female student at Northwestern University asking me if I “identified as black.†Being black is supposed to define how I think, as part of the collective, ready to be subjugated to the “group-think†of the left. And if you are one of those, well, “uppity Negroes,†who supposedly cannot read, and decides to think for yourself, well, there are consequences, ramifications, for escaping the progressive socialist left’s ideological and economic 21st-century plantation.
