Mr. M and I try to find a WWI site whenever we visit Europe. On our most recent trip to eastern France, we went to Le Ligne, an entrenched slugfest between France and Germany that predated American entry into the war. Fascinating look at trench warfare in a fairly inaccessible location high in the mountains. On past visits, we've gone to Verdun and environs and managed to find the village (Mont-devant-Sassey) where my grandfather's unit was when he was gassed on the last day of the war. I told him last night we should go to Belgium for a change and visit some of the WWI and WWII sites there.
