President Trump will hunker down in the White House on Election Day, after barnstorming across the U.S. in the final two weeks to campaign for Republicans.
White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said Trump will spend Tuesday “making phone calls, monitoring Congressional, Senate and Gubernatorial races across the country and meeting with his political team for real-time updates.â€
"After 3 rallies in 3 states and 4 flights, Pres Trump looked understandably weary stepping off Air Force One this morning at 2:19AM," an early morning White House pool report said. "By the time he got back to the WH, it was 2:43AM. @PressSec says @POTUS will spend the day making phone calls and meeting with his political team."
The president and first lady Melania Trump have invited family and friends to watch election returns in the White House residence later in the evening, she said.
Trump voted "a few weeks ago" by absentee ballot, a White House spokesperson told the Washington Examiner.
The 72-year-old president spent much of the last week on the road, holding 11 rallies in 8 states. On Monday, Trump visited Indiana, Missouri, and Ohio, and returned to the White House shortly before 3 a.m. Tuesday.
