Respectfully, it looks like at least some Trump-haters got in some slights in this thread. That's really what this is about, imho. Just like ignoring that soldier in the past while the Texan was remembered as a "good guy", the one who gave his life did not even merit being mentioned. Play your little games with others. You've shown your true colirs. Now, I said some not all are Trump-hating types.

The only one who has said anything about Trump on this thread is you. And the one who started tossing insults was you.

You make no sense whatsoever. It is irrational.

"colir" is Hungarian for "eye wash".

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

It is NOT selfish of a person to not want to sacrifice their peace of mind over tragedy they have no control over. We all have one life to live; one life to experience as much love and happiness as we possibly can. It's okay to recognize what is out of your control and let go of it.

@Dexter

I agree.  If you get sick of it all, go indulge in something purely escapist.  Or take a walk.  There’s nothing selfish about taking a break from the news.

@TomSea, for the love of God, not everything is about Trump, although you manage to insert him somehow.

Get that man off your brain and get some fresh air.

I think the constant stream of bad news is extremely bad for our mental health. Information didn't used to move so quickly. People weren't CONSTANTLY inundated with knowledge of the worst happenings in the world around them. It can seem like the world is falling apart when you're aware of every tragedy that is happening in a world with billions of people.

Good comment, and very true, @Dexter .

It's especially hard for people who really care.  If you get involved emotionally with every tragedy (and there are so many), it neither helps you, nor the people you read about.

But the constant stream is hard to balance, and I think we all need to keep working on it.

My problem is that I can get very angry, as well, with those who cause these tragedies. (I want them to suffer.......... badly).  That's not emotionally healthy either.

It's challenging to stay informed, and not sink into deep sorrow.
Character still matters.  It always matters.

I wear a mask as an exercise in liberty and love for others.  To see it as an infringement of liberty is to entirely miss the point.  Be kind.

No, it's certainly not healthy, and it also happens to be extremely common. Sorry if this comes off as annoying because you didn't ask for advice, but for me it helps to stay mindful of the fact that anger always hurts me, no matter who is making me angry and no matter how much I'm justified in being angry. The evil in the world doesn't deserve the power to destroy our happiness and peace of mind. It's not an easy thing to control, but in the end it IS possible to deny evil that power while still doing what we can do to stand against it.

Well, here's my two cents, anger can be therapeutic and productive...........when channeled correctly. If I didn't have a walk-in freezer to vent in when I was managing teenagers I would have been put in prison or the looney bin. Anger can get a whole lot of work done when you use that energy productively rather then destructively.

Now that I am older, sadly not wiser, I don't watch or listen to the news because it just serves to spin up anger over things I have no control over. If I want to know what's going on I come here because there is only a smidgen of the insanity found at TOS, which used to be very good at compiling news but is now just a vipers nest of spewing venom. Anyway, I completely agree that sometimes the best thing to do is just walk away from the news and spend time with family, not the crazy ones, or your pet or just getting out for a walk and letting yourself spin down.

I can see that anger could give a person strength in the right situation. When it comes to anger it's probably important to make a distinction between what we can control and what we can't.

He probably wanted to sober up before talking to the cops so his legal situation would be better.

He admitted sniffing glue.

Time to go Duerette on all drug users and sellers.

Driver 'huffing' before fatal hit-and-run with Girl Scout troop, officials say
http://www.foxla.com/news/driver-charged-in-hit-and-run-crash-that-killed-3-girl-scouts-1-volunteer

Then this was no accident (which seemed pretty unlikely), like a blown out tire or seizure or something else like that. This was the result of a willful choice. This person should never leave jail, ever.

  • All deserve a trial if accused
The report now is the suspect young man, the killer along with a friend were inhaling, wait for this....

A computer keyboard cleaner.  How heinous is that? 3 little girls killed, I believe a mom and one more little one in the hospital, last I heard. The ages of the girls are around 8 years old. I know they must be in heaven now.
