Trump accuses media of trying to 'score political points' after suspect charged for mail bombs
By Chris Mills Rodrigo - 10/26/18 07:41 PM EDT

President Trump accused the news media of trying to "score political points" on Friday after a suspect was taken into custody following a spate of attempted mail bombings targeting prominent Democrats.

Trump argued during a campaign rally in Charlotte, N.C., on Friday night that the “media has a major role to play whether they want to or not” in repairing the civility of political discourse.

The crowd responded by chanting "media sucks."

“The media’s constant unfair coverage, deep hostility and negative attacks only serve to drive people apart and to undermine healthy debate,” Trump continued.

The president then accused the news media of attempting to use the mail bombing case as ammunition against him and the GOP.

It’s not the media’s job to be liked. It’s especially not the media’s job to be liked by people in power. And it’s triply not the media’s job to placate a president who routinely demands their silence, affirmation or, most recently, their physical assault.

There's a whole lot of faux indignation in these sentences, but curiously no mention of what the media's job actually is.   :pondering:

No, Ms. Cupp (if that is your real name), the president simply demands an honest and fair press that lives up to its constitutional role of informing truthfully our national political debate.

None of that has he’s gotten in 3-years of negative, dishonest and biased reporting, Ms. Cupp.
