Illegal immigration is really a key Democrat issue nowadays to build their constituency...they'll fight tooth-and-nail because that is there hope, along with issues like say, same sex marriage, the life issue.
This is why Kanye West is so maligned because even taking a sizeable chunk of the AA vote from the Democrats would be a big set back for them.
