'Democratic Socialism': A Myth and an Oxymoron
By Geoffrey P. Hunt

Except for the stubbornly ignorant, led by U.S. senator Bernie Sanders and his fashionista acolyte Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Democratic Party candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives, the rest of us understand that socialism is an abomination.

What is not well understood is how the social construct of a pure democracy cannot redeem any feature of socialism.  Instead, it would hasten the arrival of collective totalita

The worst conceit of the people who would like to implement socialism is that the present system is unfair to large groups of people...."systemic racism," "white supremacy," and all that.
The facts are the present system is constructed to benefit people who work hard, play by the rules, and don't try to steal the production of other people.
Only a small percentage of the population fails to maintain a decent standard of living.
That includes people who fail to move to areas where there are jobs when their own area dries up.
Nothing is guaranteed in life.  But the present system works a lot better than socialism to meet the basic needs of the general population.
I like to bring up the story of the man from India who when visiting the U.S. asked to be taken to the poorest part of town. When asked why, he said he wanted to see a country where the poorest people were the fattest.  That's the U.S.

The term "Democratic Socialism" is not meant to be taken literally, it's a construct used by Democrats (presumably because of the name of their party).  The idea behind the construct is it will be of the "will of the people" that Socialism is forced upon society.  If they get majorities in Congress (and the Presidency), this will be evidence that it is, in fact, the "will of the people."

This is, of course, rubbish.  If they really did have a majority of the public wanting Socialism it would be 51% looting the other 49%, which is why the Founders detested the notion of pure "democracy."  They were well aware of the Tyranny of the Majority, which was to be opposed at all turns.  We are a Republic for a reason even the French understood, back in the day.

Every nation in the world with the word "Democratic" in its name have proved it really means Communism.

Exactly, and well stated.

No quarter given to the enemy within...ever.

You can vote your way into socialism, but you have to shoot your way out of it.

Gullible Americans put in orders for democrat socialism, thinking they would get Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

But instead they get Cuba, North Korea, Venezuela, etc.

The relatively wealthy Nordic version is fueled by capitalism, wisely managed natural resources. etc.

A number of commie nations called themselves "The People's Republic of Thugistan" or "The Democratic People's Republic of Crushyourbonesia"or whatever.  Of course, they were neither democratic nor a republic.

Do you think their version could benefit us? If not are some elements of it maybe worthwhile?

Thoughtful commentary from intelligent posters.
Arguably, the Greeks were the wisest to walk this earth.
Aristotle asserted Monarchy was best for the nation/state
while Plato, for a Republic of the wise; an oligarchy.
We opted for the latter yet the left rants that only democracy
enfranchises the masses giving their expectations, hope.
Our Founding Fathers affirmed the wisdom of Plato.
Sadly their kind do not exist in out time!!!
