Colleges and universities are walking a tightrope as they accept the burden of molding student values, sometimes finding themselves in conflict with Americans committed to a more traditional worldview.

Nowhere is the friction more pronounced than in Texas, as illuminated by the story of how the state's flagship university got caught in the maw of the culture wars. A campus effort to question assumptions about masculinity has become a flash point revealing how much influence right-wing media wields in debates over gender and sexual violence, as President Donald Trump warns that the #MeToo movement holds dangers for men.

In 2015, the University of Texas at Austin rolled out a program, MasculinUT, that aimed to teach men how to reduce sexual and other forms of interpersonal violence, the rates of which are striking. An average of 24 people per minute are victims of rape, physical violence or stalking by an intimate partner in the United States, according to the National Domestic Violence Hotline. On the Austin campus, 42 percent of students said they had experienced sexual harassment from their peers since enrollment, a university survey revealed last year.

Conservative media had a field day with MasculinUT, protesting that the university was treating masculinity as a "mental health crisis" because the program was housed in the UT Counseling and Mental Health Center. The attack began in April of this year when PJ Media, a conservative website, accused the school of foisting lefty ideas on students and encouraging gender play.

I find it highly ironic.... that on one hand, the idiot left claims.... re: transgenders and gays that "God made them that way, so we must accept it"...(if or when they even ever acknowledge God)...

and yet when it comes to their meme of "toxic masculinity".... it's all the eeevil males' fault ....both individually AND collectively, of course.  And yet... when Bill Clinton was being accused of actual rape, not to mention abuse of power, none of these leftists made a peep.  Suddenly, it was "cool" to get BJs from a female half his age in the Oral Office.  It set the stage for what was "accepted" as sexual activity in the United States.

But now... males are being blanket-labeled as would-be rapists and abusers via the "toxic masculinity" meme.   Seriously?  How the hell do creatures like these leftists manage to function day to day with that level of hypocrisy, irrationality, stupidity and illogic?  It boggles the mind.

Fact is.... yes, God made males to respond to females the way they do in order to propagate the species.

In nature, it's the females that are "in heat"... but when it comes to the human species, it's the male that is perpetually "in heat"...lolol.  It's been that way from the beginning... but until these idiot left "toxic masculinity" morons came on the scene, it was just accepted as how things are and how we were created.  AHmazing.  I think we need to round them all up and put them into newly-built (or refurbished) sanitariums.  For their own safety and good, of course.   888mouth

The university is deeply troubled that anyone would possibly find their misandry objectionable.

What is missing - ALL that is missing from modern 'masculinity' is HONOR and the age old expressions thereof.

There is nothing wrong with violence - If a woman is being attacked, she will look for and appreciate the righteous violence of an honorable man that intervenes.

There is nothing wrong with raw virility, properly expressed through honorable means, and there is nothing wrong with competition, honorably performed, in order to hone that virility.

There is nothing wrong with battle when it is performed to honorably defend.

There is nothing wrong with a man assuming the weight and responsibility of leadership, honorably addressed.

All a man has is his honor (often expressed by his word). There is nothing else. It cannot be replaced or substituted. It cannot be altered. It cannot be redefined. Every man eventually knows it, though it is not native to him - It is en-cultured. It must be nurtured and maintained. It is hammered into a young man by his father, painfully driven in deep to where it cannot be removed.

And a woman who loves him most often reminds him, because it is ever elusive without her. Hard to keep. Hard to see, though she sees it plainly (similar to a man's heart).

Herein lies the dire fate of altering social norms. Herein is the thing that has been lost, utterly lost:
A man of honor and a woman of honor. Without both there can be no society, because that society is made for women of honor by men of honor. Without each we will continue to lurch into deeper and deeper fields of depravity.

There's masculinity...and there's toxic masculinity.

No, there is not. There is only honor and the lack thereof. Masculinity is beside the point. Re-framing it otherwise clouds the view. It is not a matter of masculinity, but rather, a matter of gentility.

Supressed claims:
"There's masculinity...and there's toxic masculinity."

That's like saying there are "moderate" muslims....
