Armed looters are targeting homes and businesses that remain without electricity after being ravaged by Hurricane Michael a week ago.

Sheriff’s Maj. Jimmy Stanford said deputies have arrested about 10 looters each night since Florida’s Bay County took a direct hit from the strong Category 4 storm last Wednesday. In some parts of the county, residents have spray-painted signs warning that “looters will be shot.”

Callaway resident Victoria Smith told the News Herald that thieves came into her town home while she and her four children were sleeping with the front door open to allow a breeze inside.

“I must’ve been so exhausted from everything in the past days I didn’t even hear them come in,” Smith said. “They just snatched my purse out of my hands and ran. … It was all we had.”

Sounds like it's past time for the menfolk to form a militia of sorts and help get things under control...thieving scum.

My abode took over $100K damage after Rita, and we were without power for over 3 weeks.  Not that my reputation of loving guns had anything to do with it, but for some reason I didn't see any looters
I display the Confederate Battle Flag in honor of my great great great grandfathers who spilled blood at Wilson's Creek and Shiloh.  5 others served in the WBTS with honor too.

What is the difference between armed looters and bank robbers? None.  Armed looters should be shot on the spot.

Following Hurricane Ike, my street was without power for a week.  The wife and kids stayed at my In-Laws that got power back after 12 hours.

After a couple days, my neighborhood was nearly abandoned.  Only a couple of us had generators and stayed.  I brought a mattress downstairs where it was cooler and slept with a double-barrel 12-gauge shotgun.  I thought our street looked like a buffet to looters.

Yeah....not a good idea.  If you're going to sleep with your front door wide open during a situation like that.... at least have a motion detector alarm (they make battery operated ones) or a barky dog... AND a gun at your side.  Good grief.  I have all three and during power outages, that's what I would rely on.  Better yet, keep the door closed & locked and just open the windows.

It really adds insult to injury for the thieving scum to further victimize someone like that by stealing a purse right out of someone's sleeping hands.  I hope they get their "justice" and their richly deserved reward.

No quarter given to the enemy within...ever.

You can vote your way into socialism, but you have to shoot your way out of it.

And this is why people refuse to evacuate.  Law enforcement declares open season for looting.  None of the crooks evacuate, but property owners are sometimes barred from returning.
