Kerch blast: Crimea college bomb attack kills 18

At least 18 people have been killed and dozens more wounded in an explosion at a college in Russian-annexed Crimea.

Officials said an "unidentified explosive device" detonated at the technical college in Kerch, where Russia has built a bridge between the peninsula and Russia.

Initial reports had suggested that the blast was some sort of gas explosion.

But a Russian national guard official said the incident was a deliberate "terrorist act".

Sergei Melikov said the explosion had been caused by an improvised explosive device. ...

At least 10 people have been killed and many more wounded in a bomb explosion at a college in Crimea that one witness told local television also involved an attack by at least one armed gunman.

The Russian national anti-terrorism committee, a government body, said the explosion at a polytechnic was caused by an “unidentified explosive device”, according to Russia’s Tass state news agency.  ...

On local television, the head of the college described an armed rampage with attackers gunning down pupils and teachers, leaving bodies strewn throughout the building. At least one attacker blew himself or herself up, the school director said.

“It was a real terrorist attack, like in Beslan,” the school director, Olga Grebennikova, said, referring to the 2004 terror attack that left more than 330 dead. ...  Photos, a map and more at The Guardian

An 18-years-old student of the fourth year of college Vladyslav Roslyakov conducted mass murder in Kerch (occupied Crimea). He himself died, as the press office of Russia’s Investigation Committee reported.

“The young man, who came to the college right before the incident, was identified quickly. According to the video tape, he had a gun in his hands. It was an 18-year-old student of the fourth year of college Vladyslav Roslyakov. His body with a gunshot was found in one of the premises of the college,” the message says.

As of now, Russian Investigation Committee reports 17 died and 50 injured. The initial inspection of the body indicates that they died from the gunshots

In this case, that is a Russian-type of name versus those of other ethnic groups which might be in that area.

She said that eyewitness told her that "two men" had entered the college and that "one blew himself up in the cafeteria" while the other "walked around the rooms and shot everybody at random. He just shot everyone he saw."

MOSCOW --   Russian officials said an 18-year-old student attacked his vocational school Wednesday in Crimea, going on a rampage that killed 17 students and left more than 40 people wounded before killing himself. One student said the shooting went on for at least 15 minutes.

Russia's Investigative Committee, the nation's top investigative agency, said the attacker was caught on security cameras entering Kerch Polytechnic College in the Black Sea city of Kerch and firing at students. It identified him as Vladislav Roslyakov.

Sergei Aksyonov, the regional leader in Crimea, said the fourth-year student at the school had acted alone and killed himself in the school's library after the attack.   ...

Russian television said Roslyakov's mother, a nurse at a local hospital, was helping the wounded, unaware that her son was the suspected attacker. It quoted those who knew Roslyakov as saying he was not very sociable and often put gloomy posts on his social media page.  ...
