Sambos since 1957, continues (at least) in Santa Barbara, CA
They were killed by political correctness and charges of racism, I still recall when they were murdered.

So did you stock up on "Southern Hospitality"?

Haven't you noticed?  It practically oozes out of her....

I'm withholding my judgement until we hear from Gabby Johnson.

A worthy mission.  Here, we have to rely on the coming of the 100 degree days.

Been to that one - Sambos is great.

Bobs Super Big Boy was killer. Bennigans was a decent after work hangout in the eighties.

My vote for worst goes to Boston Market. I don't know if they're all closed but they ought to be.
There was a time when I first was looking to leave Mickey D's and I was interviewed for Boston Market. Back then they did a second extended interview where you went to work in one of their stores for a day.........for free, so you could both decide if it would be a good fit. After the first three hours I saw so many health code violations that I told them I couldn't lower my standards to consider working for them. AAnd yeah there are still some 400 of the suckers still open across more than a few states :3:

I always liked the A&W Drive-ins. I remember there was one on HW 146 south of Kemah and one in Galveston.

The Big Boy restaurants, I remember, were Shoney's.
My FIL was the CPA for the local A&W, wife and her siblings always got root beer floats, he also did accounts for Helen Grace, anyone know them? Their original factory was in Lynwood, CA where I grew up (I remember selling their chocolate Easter Eggs as a fundraiser in Catholic school, you could win a glow in the dark Crucifix), anyway he got to bring home bags of seconds and broken candy. Bummer this article is making remember lots of things that once where.

Anyone recall the Ralph Story programs 'Things That Aren't There Anymore', kind of a SoCal thing, but really gets the nostalgia going!

O/T:  Did Elvira get a boob job?
@Cyber Liberty
I don't know, she was an adult film star, Cassandra Petersen, before becoming Elvira but in my mamm, er memories they have always been like that. let me splain, I watched her TV show Elvira Mistress of the dark as a teenager and there were more than a time or two that she had wardrobe malfunctions on the at that time live program. Also I saw her in person several times when I worked at Knott's Berry Farm and she did the very first Halloween Haunt and the way for her and Seymour and Ted Cassidy (Lurch) to enter the park was through the Steak House kitchen where I was a cook. So was that TMI?

Okay one other thing, recall when she was really at the height of popularity an expanded interview on one of those Access Hollywood programs was done with her while she was walking her dog, um, unencumbered? And she her attributes didn't move like that eras silicone :tongue2:

Re: Ponderosa
That place was a staple of my childhood back in the 1990s. Our family usually stopped at the one in Olean, NY during shopping trips (usually to K-Mart, to speak of moribund brands) to eat at the buffet. I remember eating steak at the one in Bath, NY on another trip—it was pretty good...

...although with a caveat: I did stop into the Olean Ponderosa a few weeks before it unexpectedly shut down last year. The food was exactly as I remembered it, but more expensive and not particularly good. But hey, when you are a kid, I guess you're not that picky.

Didn't know there was a good pecan.

I don't know what to think about pecans right now. My 4 trees are just starting to drop. I've picked about 30 lbs from my 4 trees so far.
I've gotten about 100 lbs of nuts per tree in a good year, and this year the trees are loaded. A whole lotta stooping over. That's what I get for trapping those 30 some odd squirrels over the past year. And then comes all those damn leaves.

Trimming those trees give me some good BBQ smoking wood. Maybe I should just cut them all down for BBQing.

Well that validates my impression. The place seemed like a huge petri dish.

I remember early early on, Boston Market being an excellent place that was clean and had good food.

Man did it ever go down hill.
I display the Confederate Battle Flag in honor of my great great great grandfathers who spilled blood at Wilson's Creek and Shiloh.  5 others served in the WBTS with honor too.
