New Jersey hasn’t elected a Republican to the Senate in 46 years. But this fall, Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez is facing an unexpectedly strong and well-funded challenge from a Republican nominee named Bob Hugin, who is spending millions on negative ads reminding voters of Menendez’s past ethics troubles.

Menendez went on trial in federal court last year, accused of illegally accepting gifts from a wealthy donor. A mistrial was declared after the jury failed to reach a verdict, but later, the Senate Ethics Committee “severely admonished” Menendez.

Frank Cannon:
Unexpected my ass. I live in the tristate area and it is pretty common knowledge that this fat corrupt creep has been circling the drain for months. It's the one standard in NJ politics that never changes. They ALWAYS vote for Rats until that person becomes so corrupt and disgusting that they can't take it anymore. Then they vote for a GOPer to clean things up. After a term or two of that it is right back to voting for another shitbag Rat. It never changes.

The metaphors don't get any better (or worse) than this:

A van carrying Hillary Clinton, fresh from throwing her #MeToo sisters under the bus this weekend, crashed into a parking garage pillar on the way to a New Jersey campaign fundraiser Tuesday for beleaguered Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez. At her side was Huma Abedin, who is divorcing convicted serial sexter and underage girl stalker ex-Democratic Rep. Anthony Weiner.

Thankfully, no one was hurt in the accident. But politically, damaged goods plus damaged goods equals an epic car wreck.

I hope Hugin can take it. The article goes on to detail a bit of what Melendez has been accused of, the Democrats apparently are going to fund the Menendez campaign these last few weeks with $ 3 million dollars.

This article says Hugin has spent $24 million of his own on his campaign.
