If the Army Does Not Fix This Big Problem It Won't Fight a War Anytime Soon

If conflict erupted in Europe, then U.S. troops might find broken weapons and vehicles waiting for them.
by Michael Peck

It’s easier to transport soldiers than tanks. That’s why the U.S. military maintains prepositioned stocks of weapons and supplies in depots near potential conflict zones, enabling arriving soldiers to grab their equipment.

But if conflict erupted in Europe, U.S. troops might find broken weapons and vehicles waiting for them, according to an audit by the Department of Defense’s Inspector General.

Almost every prepo storage has an Army Field Support Battalion assigned to it or vice versa. If the equipment isn’t being maintained, then some Lieutenant Colonel or their Colonel AFS Brigade commander boss should be relieved.  But most of the time this equipment gets fielded to these stocks and forgotten.
