Collins: Trump's Remarks About Ford Were 'Just Plain Wrong'
Sen. Susan Collins (R., Maine), one of the crucial Republican swing votes on Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination, told CNN that President Trump’s comments mocking Dr. Ford at a rally Tuesday night were “just plain wrong.†She didn't comment on whether the remarks would affect how she ultimately votes.
Democrats also condemned Mr. Trump’s comments. “He's dividing us into tribes, and last night was the most basic tribe of all: men and women,†Sen. Angus King of Maine, an Independent who caucuses with the Democrats, said on CNN.
One of Dr. Ford’s lawyers, Michael Bromwich, tweeted that Mr. Trump’s comments were “a vicious, vile and soulless attack.â€
Earlier, another Republican swing vote, Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona, said he found the comments "kind of appalling."
