The Midwestern states that handed President Trump the White House two years ago now appear poised to deliver a sharply negative verdict against his party, thanks in no small part to voters’ dissatisfaction with the way Trump has handled his job.

Trump won Michigan and Wisconsin in 2016, two of the “blue wall” states that had voted Democratic in every presidential election since 1992. He cruised to victory in Iowa and Ohio, swing states Barack Obama won twice. And he came within 45,000 votes of winning Minnesota, a state that last voted Republican when Richard Nixon was on the ballot.

His wins added to a rightward drift that has happened in the Midwest in recent years. Republicans control both chambers of the state legislature in all five of those states, and the party owns most of the U.S. House seats in Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, Indiana and Ohio.

“The Midwest used to be what was referred to as the blue wall, with working-class and middle-class communities” voting Democratic, said Jim Ananich, the Democratic minority leader in the Michigan state Senate. “Obviously, that fell apart in 2016.”

I've hardly seen a poll where the demographics match those of a typical mid-term election. Most polls aren't even giving them out anymore because they know they're bogus.

Even so, if America wants to put these asshats back in power in a raging economy over pearl clutching/fainting couch issues, then this nation has become nothing but a bunch of self-righteous politically correct pinheads who'll fall for any kind of sophistry, and need taken down a peg or two.

But that's the point. The Kavanaugh attacks are flimsy and rabid, pure political scorched earth.

If voters fall for that, then we are screwed, because the Dems can lead them around by the nose with any little old manufactured outrage, anytime, anywhere.

We agree the Kavanaugh attacks are flimsy, but rats don't.  That is why they are rats.

If Kavanaugh is confirmed the rats will energize their voters with the issue.  If Kavanaugh is not confirmed the GOP will energize their voters.  The anger over the process will be forgotten by the winners by election day.  The losers will fume until election day.

This just doesn't make sense. The area seeing the greatest benefit from a growing economy, manufacturing jobs returning, and tax cuts is the midwest. The writer could be right, after all people can be pretty stupid. But why put back into power a party that looks at you as "deplorable" and only represents urban tofu eating elites.

I get it that Trump's personality can be more than a little oft putting, but the policies have been outstanding.
