Sounds like she was most likely a contractor, not a USG employee. In many employment agreements there is typically a clause about bringing discredit upon ones employer, in or out of the workplace and that it is cause for termination.
In addition, it's claimed she was using time at her place of employment to engage in political activism (mischarging) for the DSA. A huge no-no and by the sounds of it, the true reason for her dismissal. I'm sure the computer logs of her activity will be presented in any legal action she chooses to pursue.
That she's a member of the DSA says all I need to know about her "intellect".
