Former Army Master Sergeant, Joe Elias Ramirez, a Korean War Veteran who spent 33 months as a prisoner of war in North Korea, will be the guest speaker at a POW/MIA Day Observance at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston on Friday, September 21st at 1:00 p.m., in the second floor Medical Center Chapel.

Ramirez was shot 5 times and captured during the Battle of Unsan on November 5, 1950 and after being held for almost 3 years, he was repatriated in September of 1953 and discharged from the military.  However, three months later he reenlisted in the military and went on to serve in the Army for 22 years before retiring. His numerous awards include the Bronze Star (5 times), the Purple Heart, the Prisoner of War Medal, the Army Commendation Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

Houston VA will be honoring the commitment and sacrifices made by all our nation’s prisoners of war and those who are still missing in action at the POW/MIA Recognition Day event on Friday. All are welcome to attend.
