Beijing’s militarization of islands and features it claims in the South China Sea is by now widely seen as a threat to freedom of navigation in one of the world’s most strategically important waterways.

What’s gone less noticed, however, is how Beijing could use those emerging forward bases to project power into the South Pacific, where critics say Beijing harbors “neo-colonial” ambitions and the United States maintains crucial naval and air force bases on Guam.

A Pentagon report released last month that said China was likely training for air strikes against US and allied targets will have brought China’s emerging power projection capabilities into the Pacific into stark and urgent relief among policymakers in Washington.
My 'Viking Hunter' High Adventure Alternate History Series is FREE, ALL 3 volumes, at most ebook retailers including Ibooks, Barnes and Noble, Kobo, and more.

In Vol 2 the weapons come out in a winner take all war on two fronts.

Vol 3 opens with the rigged murder trial of the villain in a Viking Court under Viking law to set the stage for the hero's own murder trial.

I'm a realist.

China will eventually be victorious in its long-term goal of control of the South Pacific, and sooner or later they will get Taiwan back as well.

The Chinese know that the United States is not willing to risk a World War which could easily "go nuclear" to save any nation in the South Pacific again.

We don't have the manpower, the money, or the collective will to do so.
And never will again. Them days is over.

This is notwithstanding the North Korean threat.
But I believe the USA could be victorious if that comes down to actual conflict, because the Chinese have had enough of the NORKs, as well.

All the more reason to do them in with dollars instead of bullets.

Make it impossible (since they won't stop flat out stealing from us) for them to continue their buildup on Our dime.

Get every cent of western capital out of China and let it collapse.

Moderns are oblivious to history which requires reading and reflection.
Instead their nose is permanently glued to an I-phone so they can
remain tuned to the latest gossip, hearsay and rumor.
China, past, present or future; is no more a world power than Antarctica.
Its legacy is one of Dynastic rule by absolute Emperors for some 3500
years, followed by a half dozen dictators since the Manchu in 1912.
The economic and military power on the Pacific Rim and by extension,
Asia, has been and remains Japan who kicked China's ass in the
Sino-Japanese Wars of the 19th and 20th centuries.
Someone alert journo Kerry-boy from Taipei.
