Scam PACs killed the Tea Party. Now the GOP is facing the consequences

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, is in trouble. He’s running for re-election in Texas, the race is closer than it has any right to be, and the Tea Party isn’t around to help him this time.

The latest polls conducted in August have Cruz leading his opponent, Rep. Beto O’Rourke, D-Texas, by just four points and then just one point. O’Rourke has consistently dwarfed Cruz’s fund-raising, building a national profile through glowing articles written to energize grassroots progressives. The Left is eager to show a blue wave is happening by defeating Cruz, the Senate’s highest-profile conservative in arguably the most conservative state in the union.

Conservatives aren’t matching the Democrats’ grassroots enthusiasm. The Star-Telegram reports that Cruz, on the campaign trail, is telling Texas voters he does not have enough money to compete with O’Rourke’s million-dollar TV ad assault.

“We’re seeing the airwaves flooded [with O’Rourke’s TV ads],” Cruz told a rally at The Colony, Texas. “We’ve got to save our resources to turn out and mobilize conservatives.”

The Tea Party grassroots groups that were instrumental to electing Cruz to the Senate in 2012, defeating an establishment Republican in the GOP primary, aren’t able to offer the same assistance as they did when the Tea Party was ascendent in 2010 and 2012. The money just isn’t there.....

.......The fact of the matter is that the Tea Party and conservative political movement is dead. It was murdered.

It was murdered by greedy lawyers and political consultants who saw thousands of limited-government activists rise up in 2009 to oppose the Obama agenda and thought they could get rich by cheating these people. They created scam PACs, political action committees that promised to take on the Washington establishment if you would just open your pocketbook, while in reality they enriched their own operatives. As Politico reported in 2015, these PACs raised millions of dollars from earnest, well-intentioned grassroots conservatives and then flushed that money into the D.C. swamp.........

Hard to believe the article didn't point even one finger at McConnell and the GOP as the destructors of the Tea Party.
Lies by omission.

The blame game. Instead of pointing fingers at the GOPe, how about the Tea party supporters take a long hard look on why the Tea Party crashed and burn. Maybe the Tea Party should nominated sane candidates. Maybe the Tea Party Organizations like Freedomworks spent more time attacking the Dems and actually spent the money on campaigns instead of frivolous s**t. But go ahead and the blame the GOPe for the failures of the Tea Party. The blame game is getting old and tiresome.

Yes.  Murdered by the GOPe and those who didn't want Conservatives to be even a part of the Republican party.

You work for a while within the party, then you realize the party is working against you.

So you keep your money, and you stop working for the party because the party has shoved you to the curb.

Unfortunately, I don't think there's enough time in my lifetime for the Republican party to correct what it's done and get me involved again.

There were a few boneheaded candidates over the past years, but there were a lot of good ones too.

Here in Ohio, as a Tea Party activist, I watched the Republican Party withhold support and even try to defeat good conservative candidates.

The Republican Party doesn't want Conservatives in its ranks.  It wants good old boys who will be loyal to the Washington elites.

TEA = Taxed Enough Already.

If it had stayed as Taxed Enough Already then it would have attracted more people to vote for conservatives as the tax cutters. Being co-opted by conservative groups turned it into the Conservative Party, a perpetual loser.

The 'Tea Party' is dead, but every single one of its members still hates what Obama was able to accomplish in dividing the country along race and ethnic lines.  Also, his militarizing of the FBI/CIA/NSA against political opponents.

We're not contributing to PACS because of "...fool me twice, shame on me" attitude.  But we're still here.

Many of us identify ourselves as 'Independents'.   But we're still here.

It was murdered by .  .  .

It was murdered by the GOP Establishment.  Period.  It came when Mitch McConnell successfully blocked the candidacy of a TEA Party candidate in 2014 with the help of a super-rich donor taking his first steps into Republican politics after an extensive history of funding Dems.  It came when the GOPe cried out to Mississippi Democrats to vote for their GOPe candidate over a much younger TEA Party Conservative.  And the final blow came in 2016 at the GOP Convention when the majority candidate's delegates - all hand-picked by the GOPe - voted to consolidate all power at the national level and put an end to any grass roots movements at state level and below.

The only question now is what GOPe creature signed off on this blatant hit job against Conservatives?

Too bad the article didn't name the scam organizations, and name the people heading them.
