Looking at this decision from a distance... how many votes is Pres. Trump losing by canceling any pay increases for federal workers?

...which makes me wonder, as a group, what percentage supports him?

IMO, by doing this, he's politely slapping the Rust Belt and Middle America on the head...case they need to be reminded, who their champion is.  A  brilliant move.

Political leaders are not our champions, they serve at our pleasure not the other way around.
I stand with Roosgirl.

Freezing govt wages is not the same as freezing private wages.

Do you think they are?

No, of course not.
It is an interesting move, when the court has just passed a law saying government workers no longer have to join a union or pay dues.
He's just given them ammunition to continue to do so.
I am for it, just the timing and saying the money isn't there seems off.
Let me put it this way:
We've had quite a few large spending bills and we are still funding planned parenthood.
Cut the budget, and stop funding programs we shouldn't at the same time you freeze the wages.

Not surprised that would be the one item you chose to remark.

...and if you aren't seeing the context in which "champion" was used, ...not worth the bother.

You're right. The vast majority of fedgov workers will most like vote democrat.
Yet, do you run the risk of losing the good employees, and prompting others to stay unionized to bairgain for the higher wages anyway?
Dealing with the government agencies is tough enough already.
If the better employees bail out, it will make a bad situation worse.
Too bad it doesn't operate like most of us do, merit increases.
Then, we'd all be better off.

Are all federal workers members of AFGE?  What about SEIU?

Maybe he's really targeting the union...merit employee raises on the way?

We can dream can't we?

My youngest is a fedgov worker. He has not mentioned joining a union. His 2 yr anniversary is this Nov. He just received a raise for a promotion. Have to wait and see whether he receives an annual increase this year.
