Is that what "security clearance" means instant access to everything with no checks?

Well what does it mean to you?   Just a symbolic gesture?  No, I take it as including everything you give trusted CURRENT employees (only).

So who is sending them classified info after they leave?  Fire that guy.

They will need to know when they are called back to serve again.

IF they are ever called back they can get a new clearance.
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2018/08/16/what-are-security-clearances-and-why-do-some-former-officials-still-have-them.html

According to a Government Accountability Office report, about 4.2 million people had or were eligible for a security clearance by October 2015, as estimated by the ODNI.

One down, 4,199,999 to go.  Thank You President Trump.  I feel safer.

How long do they last?

Security clearances are subject to renewal every few years, though they theoretically can last a person’s entire life.

For example, the Department of Defense says a Period Reinvestigation (PR) must occur every five years for a top secret clearance, 10 years for a secret clearance and 15 years for a confidential clearance.
Why do former officials even still have security clearances?

Just because an official has left the federal government, doesn’t mean his or her security clearance is automatically revoked. In many cases, clearances remain automatically “active” for up to several years.

Former National Security Council staffer Elliott Abrams said he and others continued to keep their security clearances even after the Bush administration “for at least a year” because “the incoming Obama White House thought that in the early months of a new administration, we might have some useful insights to impart – information about how past events had developed, or impressions of top people in foreign governments—and our successors wanted to be able to discuss classified information with us and elicit our views.”

“It’s not so much a benefit to the person. It’s more of a benefit to the particular government officials that would need some insight from times prior to them," Berry explained.

Moss also pointed out that someone maintaining their clearance after leaving office doesn’t necessarily have access to classified information – unless a current agency requests it.

Why can't the Trump Davidians just admit this is payback for speaking against the President and they are fine with the President punishing his domestic political enemies.  Ya'll are looking deranged.

I strongly suspect that 4.2 million number is grossly wrong on the low side.  There are probably a 100 million eligible for a clearance IF they had a  need to know.

The only people that should keep their clearance are retired military officers. They can be called back
into service at any time. I would include high ranking enlisted if they also can be called back into
service. I know then I got out I spent 4 years on inactive reserve so for those 4 years I was subject
to being called back at any time.

I'm far from a "Trump Davidian" but certainly do wish people like yourself (democrats) could get a grip and understand the importance of actual security in this Republic.

That's not logic... it's anti-Trump BIAS.

And if you're insinuating that I'm a member of a pro-Trump cult... you'd be wrong about that, too.

See! You prove my point that YOU have no acquaintance with logic at all!  Since when does a lack of need to know make one an enemy?

I'm not an apologist for either party.  You just said 1/3 of America is qualified for a security clearance.  I suppose this is Trump's first step on a journey of a thousand miles.
Just a coincidence it starts with one his most vocal critics.   :pondering:

It seems I heard this morning, security clearance equals more compensation. There is a lot to this story.

Quote
Brennan, CIA 'Kool-Aid drinkers' blasted by Benghazi terror survivor

...

The former Army Ranger and CIA contractor who lived to tell the tale of the Sept. 11, 2012 terrorist attacks in Benghazi, Libya, said Mr. Brennan essentially got off easy when President Trump revoked his security clearance.

Mr. Paronto lost his security clearance years ago for telling his account of the attack.

As it should.   Neither Trump nor ANY president is required or expected to keep his most vocal enemies and detractors on the payroll... much LESS leave them with their security clearance.

You're just plain wrong on this issue, dude.

Nope! But either you have a serious problem with reading comprehension or are just prone to making things up.

Loon or not, he's a fave today of NTers, Strrzok lovers, and anything to oppose this President, duly elected by the Electoral College, per the Constitution,, and expressing the will of voters in 30 states.

Brennan is like Strrzok; thinks he is better, smarrter than voters.

Resident Usual Suspect NTerr is a Brennan Strrzok flunky.
