Officials at the Sea-Tac International Airport in Washington state said on Friday night that an airline employee conducted an unauthorized takeoff in Washington state and crashed.

Alaska Airlines said there was an "unauthorized take-off" of an airplane and witnesses reported a jet being chased by military planes. A video of this has been posted to Twitter

(CNN)An airline employee stole an otherwise unoccupied passenger plane Friday from the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and flew it for an hour with military jets chasing him before crashing in a wooded area 40 miles away.

The 29-year-old ground service agent died, the Pierce County Sheriff's Department said, without further identifying him.

The 76-seat Horizon Air turboprop plane took off without authorization around 8 p.m. local time, with an unauthorized Horizon Air employee at the controls, airport officials tweeted.

After flying and doing air stunts for about an hour, the plane crashed at Ketron Island, the sheriff's department said.  ... More, including video, at CNN

Just learning about this, choosing not to watch our local Seattle news last night. I'm wondering how he got to the runway in the first place. AT SEATAC there is normally a line of planes waiting clearance to turn on to any of the 3 runways. How could a non authorised plane enter that line of traffic without NOTICE?  More to learn.

Thankfully he crashed in a less populated area of Puget Sound.  F15s from Portland scrambled to make sure he did not get close to highly populated areas prepared to shoot it down.

Just glad he only wanted to take out himself. A sold out Pearl Jam concert was happening at Safeco Field minutes to the north as well as downtown itself.
