99% of the votes in, Balderson is up 50.1 to 49.3.

My guess is that the 7 precincts not reporting yet are rural.

That means we got this in a squeaker.

This is a conservative area.  It should NEVER have been this close.

But it was.   And the problem is Donald Trump.   The economy is booming,  folks are working again, and Republicans should be thriving.  Either independents are turned off or conservatives are.   Maybe some of both .    But as long as both sides insist on making this election a national referendum on Donald Trump,  we are at risk of losing Congress because the man is simply polarizing.

The election needs to be nationalized alright, but on the question of the economy.   Unfortunately, even on that score prosperity doesn't lend itself well to trade wars.   Trump has done great things for the economy, but he doesn't inspire confidence because he's not leaving well enough alone.

Bullshit. This is an election being held when no one cares about elections. It's summertime and the living is easy. This elections is an waste of space and about as indicative as the stupid NY election where that Commie Chick won with a turnout of 13%.

Nope.  Wrong @Jazzhead   The problem is Balderson got spooked by the media coverage and was obvious in distancing himself from the President.  Had the President not held a rally for this guy, he would have lost by 10 points.

Every candidate the President has supported has won.

Outcome tonight, so far:

- Troy Balderson - Republican Congressman, 12th CD, Ohio

- John James - GOP Senate Candidate, Michigan

- Josh Hawley - GOP Senate Candidate, Missouri

- Kris Kolbach - In tight race for Governor. Kansas

Some numbers:

2016:

R P. Tiberi (i)    66.6%    243,970
D E. Albertson    29.9%    109,455
G J. Manchik    3.5%    12,848
-------------------------------------
Total                                 366,273

Today:

50.2%   Troy Balderson   GOP   101,574
49.3%   Danny O'Connor   Dem   99,820
0.6%   Joe Manchik   GP           1,127
-------------------------------------------
Total                                         202,521

So 55% of 2016 turnout. Exceptionally high.
The Republic is lost.

So over 150K people at the Jersey Shore instead of voting is good?

I'd say the Dems peaked their vote.

They beat back the voters from the grave.

You are right.

As long as Trump continues to grandstand with his stupid Tweets and derisive insults, the attention will always be on him and not the economy, nor the candidates.

There is no way this election should have even been close....... not in this district.

Trump's negatives other than to his hardcore base, made it so.

Balderson will end up winning this, but a far left Dem like O'Connor would never have had a chance in other circumstances.
