I love how everyone pretends like there was a time over the last 100+ years where there was some Constitution driven government running this country. There hasn't been. It's a unicorn that purist blabber about to make themselves sound erudite. Christ, Lincoln flushed the Constitution down the toilet for the "better good" and he is on the damn currency......twice.

@Frank Cannon

Right on!
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

That'd be cool. I'd like to see the south's ass kicked again.

That's not how it will go down this time and it won't be North vs South.

Guess we are going to have to have a rematch to find out. Meet you at the MD/PA border at dawn. You know what? That's too early and I have an 9am meeting. Better make that 10, or we can do 11 and slip in a brunch before the shooting starts. I hate killing  people on an empty stomach.

Oh, no argument from me. On Lincoln's watch we went from a Republic composed of United Sovereign States engaged willingly in Federation to a National Government, imposed on half the country by force of arms.

Lest people forget, this was done by the "Republican" Party. Such notions as the income tax and paper money were also a product of that era.

The circumstances which led to that open conflict had been laid for decades before that. One issue which people claim to be THE cause of the war had never gone away, even from the founding, but was a can kicked down the road in the quest for consensus. Others involved trade policy which favored some regions over others, and even the construction of railroad bridges across the lower Mississippi which would have made major steamboat traffic farther upriver impossible without transloading cargoes.

There is no pretense here, just the recognition that continuing down the road of sacrificed principles is another step in the wrong direction. It isn't as if we can only go half way into this swamp before we are actually heading out of it. Instead, we are only getting farther away from where we should be.

MD was overrun and occupied during that war. First Yankee KIAs were a product of the Pratt Street Riots, though.

Baltimore still has that rioting thing down.

But I agree with others here. The next Civil War will be between the productive and the parasites.

I'll hold you down and force you to eat grits.  You'll scream "uncle" in no time.

Anyway, lonely, pfft, like I want to hang out with a bunch of clowns who shout with joy when Trump tweets an insult, but go crying to mommy if I say they're idiots.

LOL. It's where we have been for over a century. Only the low info crowd doesn't know that. Remember the NRA? No, not the gun club. The original NRA. The one that threw people in jail for charging too much for a suit or a ham sandwich.

When you decide to hang up the Pollyanna bullshit and flag waving, reminiscing about a set of circumstances that never existed, you should pick up a book and see just how overbearing and disastrous out govt' has been through history.

Sorry, Frank. The original NRA is the Gun club. The National Rifle Association was founded in November 1871.

The National Recovery Act didn't come along until 1933.

If that ever happens it’ll be because you liberal Yankees made us weak by flocking down here like locusts with your left wing politics.  That’s what y’all do—-make a mess of the place you live and then spread out and take the ruin elsewhere.  Like Vikings, only not bad assed and with honking accents.
