Trump administration officials are urging U.S.-backed troops in Afghanistan to move to more heavily populated areas of the country to avoid attacks in isolated regions, The New York Times reported.

The newspaper, citing three officials familiar with the president’s war strategy, said the move away from sparsely populated areas will help concentrate resources on cities like Kabul.

However, the Times reported that the strategy will likely ensure that the Taliban retains control of large swaths of land.

The strategy is similar to those used under former Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, creating further uncertainty about the U.S.'s future plans in the nearly 17-year-long war.

@TomSea I thought you said Trump fixed this.

Not Afghanistan, I've said places like Iraq has seen ISIS beaten back and many sources say this, "defeated", the same for Syria too, at least, from the forces we back like the SDF Kurd-dominated troops that took the ISIS capital of Syria, Raqqa.  We likely have pages of articles here on this forum that confirm this, here in the world news forum.

Thanks for posting this @Once-Ler  ; good ol' Trump, concerned about the safety of our soldiers. Also, in the World News forum area, there is an article on how there have been "peace talks" with the Taliban in Doha Qatar.

And ISIS use to not even be in Afghanistan, say, before 4 years ago, so it really shows how that country is suffering from terrorism. Now, ISIS is there.

ISIS is not defeated in Syria, they've carried out two horrible attacks in the past 2 weeks. But Syria is a divided nation with Turkey, Russia, the Syrian Regime and some of a US presence. We never went into Syria like Iraq so in a manner of speaking, it's not our war.... but we have gone in to fight terrorism and did under Obama.  Read into it for more info.

I read an article stating the same that we need to have peace talks with the Taliban and that we essentially have lost the war.
AG William Barr: "I'm recused from that matter because one of the law firms that represented Epstein long ago was a firm that I subsequently joined for a period of time."

Alexander Acosta Labor Secretary resigned under pressure concerning his "sweetheart deal" with Jeffrey Epstein.  He was under consideration for AG after Sessions was removed, but was forced to resign instead.

About 2-4 weeks ago, the US lost 2 soldiers in Afghanistan in separate incidences. We have lost about 4 or 5 there this year. I'll bet those who died within a week of each other were killed in these more "rural areas" as the story describes. We are getting them out of there. That is probably what this story is about.

I seem to remember you telling me ISIS was defeated a month ago.  Perhaps some truthful hyperbole as President Trump calls it.

However I'm certain that President Trump has done more to fight terrorism in one year than any President in the history of America!!!!  Obama gave ISIS guns and intelligence but the damn Fake Media keeps attacking the President.  Arrest Robert Mueller!!!! /sarc
