Poll: Scott Walker trailing Dem challenger by 13 points
By Jacqueline Thomsen - 07/26/18 05:23 PM EDT

Gov. Scott Walker (R-Wisc.) is trailing Democratic challenger Tony Evers by 13 points in the upcoming Wisconsin gubernatorial race, according to a new poll released Thursday.

Forty-one percent of registered Wisconsin voters in the NBC News/Marist poll backed Walker in the race, compared to the 54 percent who supported Evers.

When asked if Walker deserves to be re-elected, 34 percent of the voters agreed with the statement. Sixty-one percent said a new person should be given a chance, and 5 percent were unsure.

Walker, who ran for president in 2016, is running for a third term.

Democrats hope to flip the governor’s seat in the upcoming election.

Governorships are pretty sticky situations besides the "he's been in their now for 8 years now" mantras in battleground states like Wisconsin.  If a Democrat is elected, the government will probably get dragged into the ground until 4 years later, a Republican is in there to straighten things up again.

Has Harley Davidson suffered from tariffs or other actions? It could affect the race.

Other polling in the 2018 race

Of course, many campaigns do their own polling -- though they typically only release results that offer the most positive spin.

Meanwhile, the Marquette University Law School poll has done a set of head-to-head matchups between Walker and Evers (and Walker vs. other candidates) in June.

The poll showed the opposite of what Evers’ poll found: As of June, Walker led by a margin of 4 percent: 48 percent favored Walker and 44 percent favored Evers. Walker also led the rest of his potential opponents in head-to-head matchups.

A bit of good news if one is for Walker, even if it is from a "June" poll.  So, I'd say the NBC poll may need a bit more research. The article goes on to mention a July poll as well.

@TomSea

Yes...the tariffs have hit Harley, so they're moving more production overseas.  For example, they're closing a plant in Missouri and opening one in Thailand.
