Consumer electronics retailer RadioShack has announced that it will open more than 100 express locations across the U.S. Founded in 1921, the company filed for bankruptcy in March 2017, two years after a previous bankruptcy filing. More recently, the company has focused on e-commerce and has grown to more than 400 dealer locations. Last week, it announced a partnership with HobbyTown, a hobby and toy retailer, which will bring RadioShack-branded merchandise to 60 HobbyTown franchise locations.

I used to love it when they used to ask for my information, whenever I went in there to buy cheap 9 volt batteries.
I didn't know a store cared so much about me.

I think that must have lost them customers.

It was pretty annoying.
I've wonder if anyone ever got stalked or ripped off because of it.
I was pretty innocent, all they wanted it for was to send you flyers.
Yet, human nature being what it is, I was leery.

I have a Fry's, a Microcenter nearby plus several Best Buy's. Walmart has good prices and drops online orders to a store nearby.

I'm adept at shopping with Amazon, and I have FedEx and Kohl's nearby to help easily to Amazon returns.

Radio Shack may well be aiming at a niche, too.

Back in the day they built a great office building on a hill over looking the Trinity River in downtown Cowtown.   I think it is a college now.  RS was the bomb.  Clock boy could have really built one if he had shopped RS.

In the 70's I built and learned a lot from their "P-Box" electronic kits. Would save my money to buy them... I listened to a lot of shortwave radio with my regenerative 3 transistor radio kit... So Radio Shack holds a special place for me in my childhood.

Remember Heathkit?

Heathkit came later for me. And yes I do... I had a Heath 40 MHz scope, signal generator, frequency counter, analog FET multimeter, analog AC voltmeter (1 mV to 300 V full scale), pen chart recorder, grid-dip meter, geiger counter, HAM antenna tuner, 1 kW dummy load and 100 Watt SSB HAM radio transceiver... And more... It was a sad day when they closed down. I recently moved from California to Arizona and gave much of the above away before I moved. It all still worked...

My friend built a Heathkit guitar amplifier.
A solid state version of a Fender Twin reverb.
I actually sounded pretty good, for a solid state.

I still have a Heathkit Dwell/Tach, well I gave to my BIL for his Corvair after I sold my Studebaker and it still works as well as the day it was made some forty five years ago.
