A new pair of Air Force One planes valued at $3.9 billion will be built in San Antonio.
The Department of Defense announced the awarded contract to Boeing Co. on Tuesday, putting the total value of the contract at $3.9 billion.
The money will pay for two Boeing 747-8 aircraft to be retrofitted to the specifications required to become Air Force One planes. For Fiscal Year 2018 $64 million has been allocated.
San Antonio has been the maintenance center for the Air Force One planes -- which are two heavily modified Boeing 747-200s -- since the first one arrived in April 2015 for heavy maintenance.
