NYT conservative columnist urges Pompeo and Bolton to resign
By John Bowden - 07/19/18 09:25 AM EDT

A conservative columnist with The New York Times is urging top members of the Trump administration to step down after President Trump seemingly sided with Russian President Vladimir Putin against U.S. intelligence agencies during a joint press conference.

Bret Stephens wrote in an op-ed Thursday that national security adviser John Bolton and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo should resign over Trump's remarks Monday in which he said that he couldn't see any evidence why it "would" be Russia behind election interference during the 2016 presidential campaign.

"Assuming Mike Pompeo and John Bolton still have their own senses intact, they too should resign following the epic disgrace of the U.S.-Russia summit in Helsinki on Monday. So should their senior staff," Stephens, who considers himself a "#NeverTrump" conservative, wrote Thursday.

Stephens went on to accuse the two men of "covering up" for the president's mistakes and losing their place in the conservative argument against Russia and Putin's actions around the world.

Rather than resigning, I expect they are trying to protect the country now from Trump after he sided with Putin.

We need them now more than ever.  The farther afield Trump goes, the more we need stability in foreign relations.

It's disingenuous to say Trump sided with Putin. He didn't declare war on Russia, which seems to be what the war-mongering left wanted.

Let's see now.  Born in New York....ie a New York Jew.  Educated in Chicago and London.  Appeared on the Bill Maher show.  Works for the New York Times.  And this guy is supposed to be a Conservative???  In what alternate universe would that be?  He sounds more like a climate-change denying, war-mongering Bushbot to me.

In my experience... any time the New York Times defends someone's "intellectual honesty and fairness".... that someone is anything BUT a rightie!

So...can anybody point me to anything that would certify his "Conservative" creds?  I'll only believe it if/when I see it.  And until then, I refuse to believe this guy is what they claim he is.  Anything but a Bushie anti-Trumper, that is.

Indeed it is.

In military parlance, a "NYT conservative columnist" is a REMF.

Simple answer. I’m not.

I think for myself and don’t believe anybody’s spin.

Why?   Foreign relations are like all relations.  They start to stink after a few days.  I say we treat them like one night stands.

If by 'siding with Putin' you mean that Trump didn't punch him out during peace talks @Victoria33 , well yeah.

Maybe, but you seem to post from a place of deep distrust for Trump.

I didn't know his history but I immediately wondered what a conservative on the NYTimes would look like.

You are correct.

I distrust Trump because of my own observations regarding his behavior and wildly disparate statements on issues, as well as his problem with making truthful remarks.

I am not in any way influenced by the left.

An apropos new term I heard a couple of days ago: "Morality Peacocks"

It really fits for the daily drumbeat of "Republican" and media/opinion "journalists" like Flake, Sasse, George Will etc.

And some off our members here.,

They should all be grateful that Trump's voters elected him, shortcomings and all,, so we all get the benefits of more conservative policies.

Picture that worthless bird, strutting around showing off his/her feathers? Queer looking birds, that baely fly.

Lol .  .  .  "NYT Conservative columnist"
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-
