Cool.  I'm already in Kansas.  I call dibs on Mimi Clark!

Lol!

I liked the character Hawkins (Morgan on TWD = Lennie James).

@sneakypete, no, I don't remember any of that.  At the time it happened, I was a single chick preoccupied with clubs, dancing, clothes, and makeup, and I didn't care about politics.  And I don't have the chart for these nicknames so I don't know who Goober is, either.

But the main point is that none of your post has even the slightest thing to do with this:

Yep - I liked the way he called Darcy, his wife, 'Dawcy.'  Johnston Greene (Gerald McRaney) was my favorite.

He should...and the sooner the better.  He's applying a direct tax to Americans and runs the risk of costing our economy jobs.

The only country IMHO and strictly for national security reasons he needs to put the economic/trading screws to is China.

The rest of these stupid tariffs he's applied need to be taken off.

No that was Russia.  And they've been doing that for decades.  This wasn't something new...except to those that weren't paying attention before 2016.

Well I guess when you're delusional about who is a mythical NT and who isn't...you tend to see things that aren't there.

I'd suggest some new glasses or adjusting your perspective by removing your head from your 4th point of contact.

What about the Porsche's and Mercedes Benz vehicles that are made in the U.S.A.?  And the BMW SUV's?

There is already a stiff import fee on foreign cars that come into the U.S.  I assumed...falsely it seems...that you knew that.

It's the reason that the above mentioned car manufacturers send only the cars with all the bells and whistles top of the line stereo's and leather seats to the U.S.  When is the last time you saw a new MB sedan with cloth seats manual transmission and hand cranked winidows and a basic AM/FM radio and no AC?

It's also why many companies that used to import their cars here stopped...they couldn't afford it.  Others simple decided to build plants here.

Detroit has shot itself in the foot with the outrageous union demands.

The first 3-5K of the price of a new car you buy...goes to pay for all the union demanded bennies...to include paying full medical for employees that retired 30 years ago.

So spare me your SOB story about the poor downtrodden UAW assembly line worker in Detroit.  Have you see that sh*thole town lately?

But you're kool with tariffs on China, this week.

I've already stated what will get China to back off more than some stupid tariff.

But your Orange Colored blinders seem to have blocked your memory from what I said.

So I'll say it again.

Repeal the permanent most favored nation trading status from the ChiComs that Clinton gave them that has allowed them to flood our markets with cheap goods.

Tell them if they want continued free access to our markets to stop stealing the intellectual property of businesses in this country.

They steal billions of dollars of tech from us each year...the tariffs we put on them don't even dent their economy an iota.  What they make off of property theft from us more than makes up for any expense incurred by some stupid tariff.

Meanwhile they'll bankrupt farmers in this country with the reciprocal tariffs on soybeans...corn and wheat that our farmers produce and ship to those countries.

And what about all of the downstream U.S. companies that suffer and have to lay people off because of these not well thought out tariffs and the effect it has on anyone that has to purchase those materials for the manufacture of their own products and services?

From the way you talk they can just pound sand because...MAGA!!!

 *****rollingeyes*****

While you're cheering tariffs the industries that Trump is protecting with what amounts to a direct tax on you and me raise their prices they charge for their good old "Made In America" steel...lumber...etc to within 1-2% points of what the tariff is on the imported goods.

It's crony capitalism at it's worst and it's still the Federal Government picking the winners and losers and that is definitely not what free market capitalism or a free market economy is all about.

“They’re not currency manipulators,” Trump told the the Wall Street Journal during an Oval Office interview.

You don't find it curious that the moment Trump does a 180 from what he said standing next to Putin 18 hours earlier that Russia suddenly dumps 70% of what remaining US treasuries they hold overnight?

Dump? How?

The debt instruments have maturity dates so they can't be redeemed at will. Sell them on the open market? If that's allowed then there would have to be buyers so the seller would have to take a loss for a quick sale.

I've come to the conclusion that Trump's comic book alter ego is this guy (the clownish version):

...Obsta principiis—Nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud, is the only maxim which can ever preserve the liberties of any people. When the people give way, their deceivers, betrayers and destroyers press upon them so fast that there is no resisting afterwards. The nature of the encroachment upon [the] American constitution is such, as to grow every day more and more encroaching. Take up tariffs with the Constitution. I didn't invent them.

Hey the Constitution!  Glad you remembered it and brought it up.

Quote
“The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defense and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States.”

Hmmm don't see anything in there about using tariffs to generate "fair trade" or protect U.S. industries from foreign competition.

Oh and then there's this little bit...speaking of tariffs that you might want to note as well....it's called Article II

Quote
(Article II) gave the President the power to negotiate treaties, the chief executive didn’t have the direct power to set or impose tariffs on nations that traded with the United States. The President could only take such action if a law passed by Congress allowed it.

Don't remember Congress being consulted on any of this.   :pondering:

Quote
Take up renown economists with anyone you'd like. I like Freidman. I don't worship a bronze idol of him.

Nah the idol you worship is more Orange in color.
Quote
Wonderful to see people I ASSUME think of themselves as Conservatives, or even the Only Strain of True Conservative just ignore the Constitution/Law when it conflicts with their personal preferences.

You mean like you did with regards to tariffs and who has the actual power to raise, approve and implement them?

THAT kind of ignoring the Constitution?

Quote
As for Detroit, No, never heard of it. I was born yesterday.

Yes that's plainly obvious with the complete lack of economic acumen you're displaying right now.

Quote
And how come the word 'Orange' isn't getting auto bleeped here anymore?

Maybe because the Mods figure we don't need safe spaces created for a noun?

Quote
Trump's retaliatory tariffs on German cars had Mercedes asking the German Govt to dump the German tariff on US cars.

The tariff was unnecessary and exorbitant considering the import duties we already put on German luxury cars entering this country.  Not to mention the 33% luxury car tax thrown in on top everything else.

Quote
So whaddya know. It's actually freakin' WORKING!

How well is it going to "freakin'" work when Merkel directs the board of Daimler AG to shutter completely or cut back production of four different models of MB products in their Tuscaloosa, Alabama plant or just shift the production outright back to Stuttgart or to India?

You're counting this as a victory before the battle is finished.  There's more than one way to win a trade war and we aren't the only ones with ways to cripple someone else's economy...especially around election time.

Quote
Revoke a WTO agreement?

The WTO is about as useful at the U.N. and just as corrupt.  Clinton gave them permanent MFN status in return for campaign cash for his second election.  There is nothing free market about them.

And like I said if you really want to get China's attention...hurt them economically...inform them that the U.S. is going to to back to a yearly review of how China operates to determine whether we renew our MFN status with them regardless of what the rest of the WTO does with regards to the ChiComs.

We're the largest market they can access anywhere...shut off that unlimited flow of cheap Chinese good with no strings attached...and you cut the flow of funds that fuels their intellectual property thievery and modernization of their military forces and it will stymie their global expansion plans as well.

Quote
Isn't that kinda like Fixing the Federal Tax Code? Great in theory. Now all we gotta do is wave a magic wand. Delivered Overnight Express.

It's certainly more logical and more fiscally sound of a policy than engaging in a tariff war with the rest of the developed world.

Quote
But I s'pose if I go down that road I'll get another argument about "The Perfect being the Enemy of the Good" being a Straw Man argument again.

Only strawman arguments being created here are by you.  Sorry if my facts are interfering with your meme.

President Donald Trump was asked at the end of a Cabinet meeting if Russia was still targeting the United States. The president said, "no," contradicting recent warnings from his top intelligence chief.

Trump's comment came after National Intelligence Director Dan Coats said last Friday that warning lights about overall cyber threats to the U.S. are "blinking red" -- much like "blinking red" signals warned before the 9/11 attacks.

Sanders is on TV denying he said that.

Speaking during a Cabinet meeting at the White House, Trump was asked by a reporter if Russia was still targeting the US.

"No," he responded, looking directly at the reporter.

Asked about the comment, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders, who said she spoke with Trump about his answer, said the President was declining to answer shouted questions when he said "no."

"The President said 'thank you very much' and said no to answering questions. The President and his administration are working very hard to make sure Russia is unable to meddling in our elections," she said, indicating Trump does believe Russia poses a current threat.

Sorry you don't care about Trump's apology tour.  Aside from any of that stuff you posted, it's really very simple--Trump can't see past himself.

That was the point of my posting to begin with.

China retaliates by putting their own tariffs on soybeans from us that they can't get anywhere else.

As for them vs our Treasuries, that'll screw with their yuan too.
