Please show me any time in history in a free market economy where tariffs worked out as a positive for anyone involved?

Just bend over and take it America because Mercedes and Porches need and deserve to be Govt Protected from those nasty Detroit builders.
What about the Porsche's and Mercedes Benz vehicles that are made in the U.S.A.? And the BMW SUV's?
There is already a stiff import fee on foreign cars that come into the U.S. I assumed...falsely it seems...that you knew that.
It's the reason that the above mentioned car manufacturers send only the cars with all the bells and whistles top of the line stereo's and leather seats to the U.S. When is the last time you saw a new MB sedan with cloth seats manual transmission and hand cranked winidows and a basic AM/FM radio and no AC?
It's also why many companies that used to import their cars here stopped...they couldn't afford it. Others simple decided to build plants here.
Detroit has shot itself in the foot with the outrageous union demands.
The first 3-5K of the price of a new car you buy...goes to pay for all the union demanded bennies...to include paying full medical for employees that retired 30 years ago.
So spare me your SOB story about the poor downtrodden UAW assembly line worker in Detroit. Have you see that sh*thole town lately?
But you're kool with tariffs on China, this week.
I've already stated what will get China to back off more than some stupid tariff.
But your Orange Colored blinders seem to have blocked your memory from what I said.
So I'll say it again.
Repeal the permanent most favored nation trading status from the ChiComs that Clinton gave them that has allowed them to flood our markets with cheap goods.
Tell them if they want continued free access to our markets to stop stealing the intellectual property of businesses in this country.
They steal billions of dollars of tech from us each year...the tariffs we put on them don't even dent their economy an iota. What they make off of property theft from us more than makes up for any expense incurred by some stupid tariff.
Meanwhile they'll bankrupt farmers in this country with the reciprocal tariffs on soybeans...corn and wheat that our farmers produce and ship to those countries.
And what about all of the downstream U.S. companies that suffer and have to lay people off because of these not well thought out tariffs and the effect it has on anyone that has to purchase those materials for the manufacture of their own products and services?
From the way you talk they can just pound sand because...MAGA!!!
While you're cheering tariffs the industries that Trump is protecting with what amounts to a direct tax on you and me raise their prices they charge for their good old "Made In America" steel...lumber...etc to within 1-2% points of what the tariff is on the imported goods.
It's crony capitalism at it's worst and it's still the Federal Government picking the winners and losers and that is definitely not what free market capitalism or a free market economy is all about.

I would suggest you read some Milton Friedman before you start to blather on about the wonderful economic effects of tariffs.
That or read a little history.
