FWIW, not everyone in Romania is Roma (Gypsy). Some years ago I read a book about the Roma – “Bury Me Standingâ€. It was a good read, very interesting.

It delved into the various populations spread across Europe, for instance, some are Christian, Orthodox and some are Muslim depending on where they settled such as Turkey or Eastern Europe.
The book also went into their origins, which is what is now Northern India and Pakistan. Interestingly their language has roots in the Indo-Aryan language.
Hitler espoused the virtues of the Aryan race, but in actuality the Aryans, speakers of the Indo-Aryan language came from ancient Iran and the northern Indian subcontinent. So in a sense the Roma (Gypies) may have had more of a claim of being the true Aryan race than do the blonde blue eyed Germanic and Scandinavian version that Hitler and the neo-Nazis imagine.
That's explained very well. I thought it was something along these lines.
Romanians are probably called that because Rome did conquer Romania and Romanians speak a Latin-based (
Romance) language such as Italian, French, Spanish and Portuguese all are. I think Romanian appears much more difficult than, at the least, Italian and Spanish.
English: How are you today? What is your name?
Spanish: ¿Cómo estás hoy? ¿Como te llamas?
Romanian: Cum te simți azi? Cum te numești?
Let's say, you can see a slight similarity between Spanish and Romanian. In large blocks of the Romanian language, I believe, then, it gets difficult to read what they are saying versus the above well known phrases.
And somehow, Roma (Gypsy) are more associated with Romania
and Hungary for that matter and then, a few other countries as well. The Nazis imprisoned them as well. Romania also fought on the side of the Axis powers I believe.
