John Kasich - last person to balance the US budget - twice.  Has not been balanced since he left.  Faithful Christian, right to life.  Thinks before acting.  Develops a plan and carries it out.

I can't say as I despise Kasich, but he's got problems as well.
One interesting story about Kasich that made me think he's a little off concerned the movie "Fargo" that came out in the nineties.
"Fargo" is one of my all-time favorite movies, and I never get tired of watching it over and over.  The best movie of the nineties.
Kasich saw it, and he was so upset about the woodchipper scene, he tried to get the movie banned from the local Blockbuster.  In his autobio he went on a tirade about what an evil movie it was.
I read the account of Kasich's actions, and I wondered if I'd want to vote for person with such a tremendous lack of a sense of humor.
It's one thing to dislike a movie, but to go out and try to get it banned is another thing.

I do like him.  I think he's an honest man, and still conservative in the old school way I was brought up in. 

There are circumstances in which Kasich could undertake a viable third party run.   He has kept his donor network together.   He would not run as a conservative, he would run as a deficit hawk and social moderate.   A third party campaign becomes viable only if the Dems nominate a leftist,  where Kasich can draw from both disaffected Dems as well as Republicans.  And of course independents, who would be appealed to not on ideology, but on a return to normalcy.
