Narrowly outnumbered in the Senate, Democrats are embarking on a Hail Mary campaign to block President Trump’s pick for the U.S. Supreme Court.

And they realize what a long shot it is.

“Let’s be clear: Democrats have no way to hold up this confirmation or delay the process. Mitch McConnell can and will hold a vote on Trump’s pick,” warned Indivisible — a liberal advocacy group launched after Trump’s election — on its website.

Flipping a moderate Republican is probably their only hope. And that only works if they can keep Democrats who represent red states that Trump won from breaking ranks.

Even before Trump’s expected Monday announcement, Democrats have launched a three-pronged approach to defeating his nominee: Frame the process around women’s health and the future of legalized abortion, mobilize the kind of nationwide protests that helped kill Republican efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act, and focus their attention on five key senators whose votes will determine whether Trump’s pick is confirmed.

What am I missing here?  McConnell can hold a vote but Collins has already stated she won't vote for Trump's pick and McCain who continues to prove worthless, won't be around to vote.  So, I'm not so sure that the Dems have anything to worry about.  The GOP doesn't have the votes.

Where did Collins say she wouldn’t vote for Trump’s pick?

She won't vote for Trump's pick if he/she has any hostility with R v Wade.  I don't think he can count on Majerkowitz in AK either.    I just don't think he's going to have the votes.  So ... I'm taking that as she wants a moderate who will uphold Roe v. Wade.

She didn't say that.

It's amazing how some people hear words never said.
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

Seeing a couple of Tweets about a source saying Barrett will be the pick.

I've heard that as well, but ...

The bottom line: Judge Barrett has given every indication that she will be an activist judge on the Court. If chosen as the nominee, she will be the deciding vote to overturn Roe v. Wade and to strike down pre-existing conditions protections in the ACA.

Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), a moderate who favors abortion rights, is signaling that the nominee must not be hostile to Roe. The message to Trump seems to be clear: Don't pick someone who would clearly overturn it, because I would vote against them.

True.  Hopefully we should know by noon tomorrow.

The libs assume that Collins is with them 100% on this. In fact, it's incomprehensible to them that she hasn't switched parties yet. The hilarious thing is that if the dems hadn't lurched so far to the left recently they might have had a realistic chance of winning her over...

In essence she did; she won't agree to Trump's pick if they have expressed hostility towards Roe v. Wade.

She has expressed concern regarding a nominee who doesn't respect SCOTUS precedent and who might seek to interject himself/herself into a political debate.   I think only Barrett arguably falls into that category.   The others would appear to be able to satisfy her concerns - and that of conservatives generally who understand the role of the Court.

@libertybele

She was also on one of the Sunday shows IIRC two weeks ago saying she won't support a SCOTUS pick that is hostile to Roe.
