Why Americans Should Care About Mexico’s Presidential Election

Frontrunner Andrés Manuel López Obrador is a radical leftist whose presidency could engender a worse crisis on the southern border.

June 29, 2018

If the polls are right, Mexico will elect Andrés Manuel López Obrador president on Sunday, July 1. He’s the founder of the left-wing Morena Party and a career politician. López Obrador ran for president unsuccessfully twice before, but this time polls show him as the front runner. The 64-year-old was elected mayor of Mexico City in 2000. Should he ascend to the presidency as predicted, his radical ideas will spell trouble for both Mexico and the U.S. for several reasons.

Mexico’s Hugo Chavez

López Obrador’s National Regeneration Movement party (Morena) openly wants to bring Bolivarian revolution in Mexico, despite the ongoing economic and humanitarian crisis in Venezuela. Key players of the party are enamored with Latin American dictators including Fidel Castro, Hugo Chávez and Nicolás Maduro.

Although López Obrador tries to cast himself as a moderate, many of his critics see similarities between him and Hugo Chavez. Like Chavez, López Obrador is charismatic and promises to bring a “radical revolution” to Mexico. True to his left wing beliefs, his economic plan is all about taxing and spending. He calls for universal access to public colleges, raising the minimum wage and increasing spending for welfare.

No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.

Why do we care about a 3rd world shithole.  Congress sure doesn't give a damn.

  • I don't believe in Trump anymore, he's an illusion
Why? there is a consistency to Mexico's government, irregardless of who wins, corruption and third word mentality is always the result. For a country so rich in natural resources, it remains dirt poor in morality and honesty at the top. Mexico is the proof of the trickle down theory, the corruption at the top trickles down to infect all below.

Mexico might as well drop the pretense and elect somebody who doesn't pretend they're our friend. They've always been a hostile neighbor.

I would like to agree. There is nothing in Mexico, sans petroleum, that is worth anything of value.

But...
I see two choices in our future:
Choice #1:
Built that wall, high and impregnable, or face choice #2:
Choice #2:
Invade Mexico, overthrow the government, clean out the cartels militarily, and afterwards install a puppet government of our own.

For years @Fishrrman previous Administrations have refused to close that 'pressure relief valve' on the Southern Border in the false belief that we could avoid the tendency of such a poor country from electing communist, trillions later we got it anyway.

I care because when they lurch left and elect a socialist, they will eventually turn into another failed economy like Venezuela.  And we will see more and more illegals flooding our borders, bringing their socialist crap to the US.

BUILT THE WALL NOW!
