Occupy Protests Freeze ICE Operations From Oregon to Manhattan


    Demonstrators are going after immigration authorities at their bases of operation, and it seems to be working.

    Immigrations and Customs Enforcement has put some New York City operations on hold while a protest outside Manhattan’s main ICE facility stretched into its fifth day.

    On Thursday, demonstrators set up camp outside a downtown ICE processing center that houses an immigration court and a temporary immigrant detention facility. By Friday, ICE was smuggling detainees out a freight exit reserved for the U.S. Postal Service in order to avoid the demonstrators. By Monday, ICE had postponed all immigration hearings in the building, without clear plans to resume.

Why isn't this obstructing justice?  ICE does more than immigration, and the protestors are keeping them from performing those duties. 22222frying pan

After fighting and winning the political and judicial battles this administration has so far on this issue I doubt they are inclined to surrender to a smelly gaggle of ill mannered law breakers.

If the Obamas could get 80K people from all over central America to the border within a week, this is just more coordinated anti-American activity. The networks need to be exposed. Little groups acting in concert are good at looking like they represent a lot larger fraction of the population than they do.

Peel back the curtain and the coordinated small group tactics are far less imposing.

In the meantime, there is such a thing as interfering with a federal officer in the conduct of their duties...

Photos and videos of the clear-out have begun circulating on social media.

Protesters in Portland, Ore., were removed by police in riot gear from outside an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility early Thursday morning.

KOIN News 6 reported that protesters have been camped out at the facility for eight days and were given written notices on both Monday and Tuesday to vacate the area.

Eight people were arrested for refusing to leave, the station reported.

ICE shut down the detention center more than a week ago for safety concerns after protesters descended upon the building in response to President Trump in response to President Trump’s "zero tolerance" immigration policy. Similar “Occupy ICE” protests have appeared across the country.

Other activists are protesting online by sharing the phone numbers and home addresses of Portland-area ICE employees.
