A Man Swallowed a Bleach Tablet Instead of a Pain Reliever. Then His Throat Tissue Started to Die.
By Rachael Rettner, Senior Writer | June 25, 2018 02:41pm ET

A Swiss man's headache turned into something much worse when he accidentally swallowed a bleach tablet instead of a pain reliever, according to a new report of the case.

The tablet mix-up landed the man in the hospital for weeks, during which he lost his voice and the tissue in his throat started to die, the report said.

The accident happened when the 65-year-old man, seeking relief from his headache, reached for what he thought was an acetaminophen (the active ingredient in Tylenol) tablet near his kitchen sink.

Maybe not intentional, but brilliant like a tie-pod eating millennial.

@rangerrebew

I had a woman patient who was in her car.  She had stopped the car and picked up her eye drop tube in the center console.  She put the drops in her eye and immediately had major pain - she had picked up the tube of instant glue in the console instead of her eye drop tube.  She immediately drove to an emergency room and her eye was saved.

Always look twice at your medicine to be sure you have the right med before you use it.

Do we have bleach tablets in the US, or is this a European thing?

I know we have them in a bigger size. But you would need to take a bite out of it, not swallow these whole:

Looks like we have something similar.  He swallowed a 3.5 g tablet.  These are 5 g tablets.

Okay,  second question: how the heck you confuse the two.  :pondering:

Ours are chewable.
