Deficit narrows 3.7% to $64.8 billion

The numbers: The trade deficit in goods narrowed 3.7% to $64.8 billion in May, according to the government’s advanced report released Wednesday. This was well below the $69.2 billion estimate of economists polled by MarketWatch.

The government’s advanced report on wholesale inventories showed a 0.5% gain in May. And advanced retail inventories rose 0.4%

Our stock markets are taking a hit but the economy is humming along. The big loser right now is Chinese stocks.

From the report, this is primarily a increase in exports of Foods, Feeds, & Beverages as well as Other Goods.  No other category either imports or exports had a double digit percentage change.
