White House donates steaks from cancelled congressional picnic to Walter Reed

The White House has donated steaks and other food from its cancelled congressional picnic to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, a spokesperson said Friday.

President Trump had postponed this year’s congressional picnic on Wednesday, citing discussions over his administration’s controversial “zero-tolerance” immigration policy, which led to hundreds of families being separated at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Trump told reporters it didn’t “feel right to have a picnic for Congress when we’re working on doing something very important.”

“Because we’re all so busy, and I just mentioned to the congressmen and senators in the room that we are going to cancel and postpone tomorrow’s congressional picnic,” the president said.
