Trump urges Republican lawmakers to drop immigration effort
Reuters, Jun 22, 2018

U.S. President Donald Trump urged Republicans lawmakers on Friday to drop their efforts to pass comprehensive immigration legislation until after the November elections that he hopes will see more party members voted into Congress.

Despite Republican control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate, the party’s slim 51-49 majority in the latter chamber makes some Democratic support necessary to pass most legislation.

“Elect more Republicans in November and we will pass the finest, fairest and most comprehensive Immigration Bills anywhere in the world,” Trump said on Twitter.

“Republicans should stop wasting their time on Immigration until after we elect more Senators and Congressmen/women in November. Dems are just playing games, have no intention of doing anything to solves this decades old problem. We can pass great legislation after the Red Wave!” he said.

We'll see if Schumer's wish comes true ... and this is a campaign issue in November.

Neither of the proposed bills going around are  anything near what the voters were promised.    Sounds like Trump doesn't have the stomach for the fight.

Nope. He’s read his Sun Tzu. Don’t fight a battle you can’t win....first set the conditions in your favor so you have won the battle before the fighting starts. With the votes we have available in Congress, the defeat of a truly conservative immigration bill would be a fait accompli. After November, the field of battle may look quite different.

Politics is a game of incremental changes to the current system. Might as well play it to your advantage.

Its the old Reagan get what you can and keep moving the ball forward. Too many here think you have put all your chips on the longshot horse and pray for a miracle.

Very wise move. Let the rats try to run on an issue the polls show they have no traction on.

Schummer is the rat face to own on this one.

More like he has the common sense, and math ability to conclude doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results from this Senate makeup won't work.

Hense his admonition to stop wasting time.

I think Trump is taking the right course here.
If he is right, and there is a red wave, he won't have to watch a bunch of lack-luster bills make it halfway and get voted down over and over again.
Or, have one come to his desk, that's a watered down version of what is really necessary.

If the is no red wave, it wouldn't matter anyway.

I've been a firm believer in doing nothing in Congress, if what you are going to do just makes a bad situation worse.
Laws do not have to be passed just for the sake of passing laws, to look like you are working on something.

Good post. It’s been correctly observed by many that it’s easy for elected officials to screw things up and make matters worse, but awfully difficult for them to get it right and improve matters.

The only problem is this issue is front and center and we have the liberal media, Hollywood and celebs like Oprah stating that children are being 'ripped' from their mother's arms.  Clearly pointing the finger at Trump and his administration.  This is going to be an issue and it would be advantageous for the GOP to come up with a solution --- let the DEMS vote against it.

Trump once again is focusing on 'angel families'; those who have family members who have fallen victim to the hands of an illegal.  I believe this is important, but the overwhelming liberal majority will never take this into consideration, because the MSM is ONLY focusing on the poor children of illegals!

Meanwhile ... children are still pouring over the borders and we, the taxpayers are still footing the bill.

If the GOP truly wants to win the mid terms -- FUND the darn wall and start building it NOW!
Romans 12:16-21

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

I would say the wall funding would be a correct bill to try, but I do not think it will have a chance today unless we see that red wave.
It may be better to wait, for now, than waste time on it.
I think it would just be a show vote today, sadly.

The democrats from Pelsoi/Schumer on down are on the record as saying they will not vote for any immigration bill.  Chuck went so far as to say he wants the campaign issue.

Bring it on, Chuck.  By the time the midterm campaigns are over the President will make you wish you'd never been elected.  During this week's rally the POTUS introduced two quick memes:  "You want border security?  You want the wall?  Retire a democrat from your state. We need the red wave!!"

And this was to a crowd of nearly 9,000 people in MINNESOTA!

The President knows anything that comes out of the Congress ... if any does at all ... will be worse than useless.

He's going for the red wave!

President Trump boldly tweeted this...

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump
1h1 hour ago

Our first duty, and our highest loyalty, is to the citizens of the United States. We will not rest until our border is secure, our citizens are safe, and we finally end the immigration crisis once and for all.
