The Latest: Italy's plans 'radical' migration changes for EU

PARIS (AP) — The Latest on the flow of migrants to Europe (all times local):

Italian Premier Giuseppe Conte says Italy is working on a proposal for a "radical paradigm change" in the way Europe manages migration that focuses on the countries of migrants' origin and transit.

Conte told a press conference alongside French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday that existing European Union regulations on asylum applications aren't working.

He says Italy plans to share the proposal for an "integrated" approach to migration when Austria takes over the EU's rotating presidency on July 1.

Macron is now saying what I've been saying for years, that it's a European problem. As is, the policies of some countries leave others holding the migrant bag. And, as we've seen, some countries have refused to be left holding the bag.

Austria has joined the refuseniks so Austria assuming the presidency of the EU should help Conte.

If the Vatican wasn't located in Rome, I'd say dump them all on Bergoglio's doorstep.

Good move by Premier Conte.

Italy should formulate a plan for its own self-preservation, and not permit such plan to be influenced by the rest of Western Europe.
