Hows Hawaii?

Beautiful but hotter than heck.  Hawaii wasn't ravaged by volcano lava or ash.  I'm on Maui which is next door to the Big Island but we didn't even see any ash in the air.  The Big Island is, well, big and the parts of that island affected were a small percentage of the total area. A lot more people were made homeless by the Colorado fires.

I was arguing with my son, an exercise in futility, about the possibility of forest management.  He just sneered at me.  But when one spark from a motorist dragging a chain sets of a fire that consumes hundreds of acres and homes, it seems like something could be done.  Like cleaning out underbrush, removing dead trees, etc.  wouldn't that be cheaper in the long run than these fires?

@Maj. Bill Martin

Why are the NTers so gleeful at the thought that Trump might have been snookered by NK?  It's almost like those nut case commentators begging for a recession because it will make Trump less popular.

Come on, @Emjay ...you know the answer to that.

...because they hate him so much they've gone blind!   And they've been hanging on with bated breath...for that day when they can take credit for being the 'big brains in the room'.

And with each passing month...with each bit of good news, they get more hysterical.

And, I LOVE IT!!!    :laugh:

"Trump got nuthin" is celebration?  That seems like a skewed way of viewing that statement.

This sums up the mantra around here @RoosGirl ... and yes, there is uber delight in repeating it ... over and over and over and over.....

Hardly imaginary.  You were clearly decrying giving any kudos at all to Trump for this attempt.

Maybe you were reacting to somebody talking of erecting a statue to Trump but I did not see that person on this forum.

As far as the Nobel Peace Prize is concerned, I wish that the U.S. would formally decline to participate in that fake competition.

I don't know who the judges over there are but their record has been spotty at best and their choices sometimes bizarre.  They finished themselves with me when they nominated Obama.
How in the wide wide world of sports does commenting on a post concerning participation trophies have anything to do with what you decided to read into it? :pondering: Please don't bother to answer I really don't think either one of us is talking about the same thing. Have a wonderful day.

We will have to disagree; I don't read delight or any kind of joy in any such statement.  It seems to me like a simple description if there are no "hooray"s or similar along with it, and I haven't seen that.  You may disagree with the description, but that doesn't make it a celebration.

There could have been, but the driver booted them...

A same-sex couple has accused an Uber driver in New York City of discriminating against them after he allegedly kicked them out of the car for kissing in the backseat.

Alex Iovine and her girlfriend, Emma Pichl, ordered an Uber Saturday to take them from the Gowanus neighborhood in Brooklyn to the East Village in Manhattan, they told ABC New York station WABC-TV.

@driftdiver   It is almost hard to believe.  Most conservatives despised Obama and with good reason, but I never saw any of them wish ill on the whole country if they thought it would make Obama look bad.  He actually did that himself.

But what we're seeing now is unprecedented in my recollection.  We are seeing the left and the media and Hollywood almost deranged.  We are seeing people willing to have a recession or even a war if it makes Trump fail.

We are seeing movie and tv stars risk their popularity just to take cheap shots at Trump.

We are seeing the F word used about our President.

I keep thinking the crazies have shot their wad and will subside but apparently they have more wad.

@Emjay

To the extent you think there are people who hate Trump more than they love the country, I'd ask "what good does that do to post that thought here?"

I mean, the inevitable response is going to be a renewal of the same old back and forth that everyone here supposedly can't stand.  If we want to limit the discussion to issues rather than the overall question of "Is Trump a good President", we have to actually not toss red meat out there that is going to reignite that battle.

Speaking of TOS, I drop over there occasionally and Jim has kinda subsided back into the chair except to rouse himself for the fund drives.

There seems to be more dissension allowed.

But isn't it always like that over there between elections?  It's only during campaign season when he cracks down.  He did it in 2008, and again in 2012 and 2016.  So when he stops, it's not because he's reconsidered.  It's just that it isn't a campaign season.

Because I think it does people good to see how far out of whack they have become.  It wont change come but maybe it will others.

Nobody is perfect but some seem to think you can't have a leader less than perfect.  IMO people are willing to throw away what may be our last chance at stopping the globalists because Trump isnt perfect.  On top of which they offer no alternatives and are doing nothing but sowing chaos and dissent.  Which helps nobody.

Because if Trump fails, our next President will be a globalist who will make Obama look like a patriot.

IMO people are willing to throw away what may be our last chance at stopping the globalists because Trump isnt perfect.

Principled Conservatives do not look at Washington DC as some kind of Mecca, and we do not look upon politicians and elected representatives as saviors or political messiahs.  We see government AS the problem.  We see D.C. AS the problem.  We hear all kinds of promises to reverse the lurch Leftward, only to have watched the very same people we elected help it further off the cliff while holding us complainers in contempt.     We recognize the entirety of government as having become corrupted and an entity that turns whatever it touches into shit.    We also find it offensive to our foundations that a people supposedly beholden to liberty allowed themselves to become so tied to a politician as to proclaim him to be 'our last chance'.  I despise this quasi-monarchy the minds of this people have accepted.

On top of which they offer no alternatives and are doing nothing but sowing chaos and dissent.  Which helps nobody.

We have offered suggestion and they have been roundly rejected in favor of the bulldozer a people want in Trump or more-of-the-same party politics on the Plantation garbage I've heard for the last 34 years.

Because if Trump fails, our next President will be a globalist who will make Obama look like a patriot.

I reject the very notion you offer there.  Tying the salvation of liberty to one man is no different than a people demanding a dictator to save them.

THIS is why we are not going to find common ground going forward, because you have rejected the very principles of liberty for whatever is politically expedient or of superficial intent.  You can rant and rave about the 'perfect being the enemy of good' until you are blue in the face.  The sad fact is you do not recognize that we have been doing what your current prescription is politically for 30 years, and we have arrived where we are culturally, fiscally, and politically precisely because you have made striving for the perfect an enemy to be rejected in favor of whatever it is you deem a 'good'.

Even when it is a lifelong NYC liberal Democrat whom has been handed the mantle of Reagan with all the hopes and dreams lofted upon his shoulders by his peoples.

It's just 2008 flipped from an observational POV.

Actually, I wasn't talking about the negative posters here.  I have them on ignore.  I was talking about the media, the democrats and the pop stars.

Exactly right.  He's like a bear who takes a long siesta between elections.  I was a poster since the first day Free Republic existed.  There were some good days back then and some excellent people ... most gone now.

But I left during the Romney primary because it became totally vicious.  Not Trump vicious but close.

Then I came back during this last primary and this time I was booted out because of anti-Trump posts.

I re-read the post you objected to, and I find it valid and worth mentioning.

I was not talking about posters here.  I was talking about the media, the dems and the celebrity community.

It certainly has a bearing on Trump's presidency.

Why is some random newspaper in South Korea relevant?

Besides, if both sides get everything they want, that's just effective negotiation.

@jmyrlefuller

Yeah, it's pretty nervy of South Korea to have an opinion on this.

Speaking for myself, I tired of being suspended for legit criticism during the campaign when the owner is on record as calling Trump 'a self-dealing charlatan and he’s got a lot of fall-for-anything chump types fooled.'

@edpc

In my case, I got fed up with the owner following me around on threads bellowing "Will you vote for Donald Trump if he is the nominee?" and accusing me of being for open borders.  To hell with waiting to be kicked out.

Well, that was back in the day there young whipper-snapper.

Nowadays farting in a bathtub is an international violation of Climate Law and could end you up in prison alongside Tommy Robinson and his fellow Muslim neighbors.
