A tiny dog famed for terrorising a large crocodile has been eaten by the reptile she tormented for over a decade.

For years Pippa the terrier would bark, snap and chase away Casey the saltwater crocodile as she lay on the banks of Australia's river Adelaide.

Tourists were regularly amazed at the tiny creature's exploits near her owner Kai Hansen’s remote Goat Island Lodge, in the outback south-east of Darwin.

But her bravery eventually proved her undoing when last week, Casey finally fought back, sinking her teeth into the dog and dragging her into the river in front of horrified onlookers.

“It was something that had a high probability of happening sometime,” admitted Mr Hansen.

The 66-year-old said his beloved pet  – who he referred to as "Dumb Blonde" – had fatally approached the crocodile’s head instead of her tail.

He said he was “really sad” but did not blame Casey, an 11ft beast he feeds by throwing meat onto the riverbank.

“She’s not doing something wrong, she’s just doing what crocs do,” he told ABC News. “In the early days she actually had a go at me a couple of times. These days I just throw food out from up the top and no-one is allowed to walk down there.”

Mr Hansen moved to his lodge, on an island only accessible by an hour’s boat ride, 15 years ago to escape city life.

No one other than his little dog, whose reputation for chasing that crocodile helped him get paying customers, that is.

Now he's going to have to come up with some other sort of stunt to attract attention.

MOST people would just shoot a crocodile that kept coming into their yard, not feed it raw meat.

Seems to me that moving almost anywhere in Australia could prove to be a way to escape life altogether.

(Australia has a profusion of incredibly venomous snakes, crocodiles, deadly spiders [even in the cities] and some pretty nasty mammals in the Outback.)

Saltwater crocs are, I believe, the heaviest land dwelling predators on the face of the planet. Dangerous as all hell.

You're right about that.  The ones that go far offshore are HUGE.  But inland Africa's most dangerous animal is the hippo, of all things.  They hate people and boats.  Big time.

My father was fond of saying:

Some days you gits the bear
Some days the bear gits you
Most days, you just gits bear hair all over you

No, this has absolutely nothing to do with Trump.  As most things don't.

@Wingnut

I don't see anything even remotely funny about it. Here was a tiny dog, doing a dog's duty of trying to protect his family from a dangerous crocodile, while the master he was trying to protect was throwing meat to the crocodile to keep it coming back and letting the dog out in the yard to chase after the croc.

And he did this to promote his business,KNOWING that little dog was going to die trying to protect him.

He would need a little protection if I ever get close to him.

You obviously don't know the real story behind that dog. The dogs Owner and the croc.

That little flea bag got what it deserved.
