Trump Again Bemoans Picking Jeff Sessions for AG

President Donald Trump is blaming his attorney general, Jeff Sessions, for allowing the Russia investigation to continue.

Trump tweeted Tuesday morning that he would have "picked someone else" for the top job at the Justice Department had he known Sessions would recuse himself from the probe.

It's the latest salvo from Trump in his bid to discredit the ongoing probe by special counsel Robert Mueller. Mueller is investigating Russia's attempts to sway voters in the 2016 election and whether Trump associates provided any help. He's also investigating whether Trump obstructed justice by taking steps to shut down the probe

Appointing Jeff Sessions was Trump biggest mistake thus far. Sessions is a worthless AG.

That's what I've been saying since day one; appointing Sessions was a huge mistake!!!  As well as appointing Rosenstein.  What the heck was Trump thinking or wasn't he?

"Fire the man..."  Some senators told him if he fires Sessions, they won't approve another one.  I think that is why Trump keeps goading Sessions, trying to make him quit, rather than firing him.  If Sessions quit, the senators would have to approve another one.

They wouldn’t have to approve another one just because Sessions quit as opposed to being fired.

Early on, Trump got bad advice from the GOPe types he had on his team. He doing much better

Meaning simply that the Senate is largely master of its own affairs, and would be no more compelled to approve a replacement if he quit than if he was fired.  The Senate is required to give its consent to nominees but, as with the refusal to consider Obama’s choice to replace Scalia, the Senate has a lot of leeway in how and when it gets around to the consent process.

The difference is, Trump wouldn't be firing him, so the Senators wouldn't be punishing Trump by not approving another one, as they would be punishing Trump if he fired him.

True enough, but that doesn’t mean they are required to do so any more than they would be required if he fired him.
