ABC weighs rebooting 'Roseanne' without Barr: report

ABC is reportedly in talks to reboot a new version of the hit comedy “Roseanne†without its namesake star, Roseanne Barr.
CNN reported Friday that the production company Carsey-Werner, which owns the sitcom, is pitching the new concept to ABC, which canned the show this week following a racist tweet from Barr.
ABC is allegedly considering rebranding the show to be focused around Sara Gilbert’s character, Darlene.
Any deal could be complicated by Barr’s relationship to the sitcom and Carsey-Werner. Depending on the star’s contract with the production company, CNN reports, Barr may have to be bought out of her stake in the show.
"Barr has a significant financial interest in the series, and there is concern that a new iteration that would benefit her financially would be a non-starter for everyone involved," Variety reported this week.
