It's not funny because Trump is governing to the Right of the Bush administration.......both of them. It makes your historical sophistry a moot point.
Liberals see Trump as too "conservative", as they see anyone to the Right of Karl Marx.
True Conservatives see him as too Liberal, and discern some totalitarian tendencies.
It really doesn't matter to those who want their Constitutional Republic back who 'rules' with a pen and a phone. Regardless of apparent benevolence, it still isn't a restoration of the form that our government has strayed from.
I will be the first to admit that there have been many beneficial executive acts from this administration, but, frankly, with a change of management, these are all too easily overturned with someone with a different pen and phone. IF the 'swamp' gets drained, (the jury is still out on that, and still I don't see the major players, at least those in the limelight, going off to GITMO or Supermax yet), then I might reconsider my own opinion somewhat, but the goal for all us ‘purists’ is the restoration of the Republic. Anything short of that isn't conservative enough for me and many like me.
As a practical matter, for now I watch and wait and reserve judgement as to whether this is just more Kabuki or something meaningful is getting done to restore the Republic. After decades of promises broken by soi-disant conservatives, I remain skeptical.
