Congressman Blames Sea Level Rise on Falling Rocks, Is Very Wrong
By Brandon Specktor, Senior Writer | May 18, 2018 05:15pm ET

Global sea levels are rising at an alarming rate, posing a serious threat to human and animal populations around the world. Scientists attribute a big chunk of this rise to melting ice at the world's poles, which lose several hundred billion tons of ice each year due to rising global temperatures. But on Wednesday (May 16), Alabama Rep. Mo Brooks proposed an alternative hypothesis: Perhaps the White Cliffs of Dover are to blame?

"What about erosion?" Brooks asked in a meeting of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Science, Space and Technology. "Every time you have that soil or rock or whatever it is that is deposited into the seas, that forces the sea levels to rise, because now you have less space in those oceans, because the bottom is moving up." Hes just as right as those saying melting ice is the cause.

No, he’s not.

@Oceander
Sure he is.

First of all the ice melts and then the water freezes.  It happens every year.   Numerous studies show that the overall ice levels are increasing.

Regardless, ice melting does not raise the water level.

Regardless, ice melting does not raise the water level.

It does when the ice is on land above the water.  Like in Antarctica, Greenland, etc...

I don't believe Mankind is causing global warming, but let's not get carried away in our denials.
