President Wants Market Reforms to Reduce Drug Prices

President Donald Trump continues to address the American people’s practical needs. Now, he is out to reduce drug costs with his latest initiative “American Patients First.”

Barack Obama recognized there was a health care problem. But he took the wrong action by pushing through Congress legislation that dramatically raised the cost of health insurance and reduced the medical choices for many Americans.

After making the health care problem worse, the Left fixated on pharmaceutical costs. And prices are too high. Noted Alex Azar II, the Secretary of Health and Human Services: “This burden has become a threat to the financial security of far too many of our seniors, neighbors and communities.”

Another good move by this president.
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

I hope so. But the schemers will scheme so they'll have to keep an eye on how things are going.

If we really want free markets, why not get rid of patents altogether?

From what the article says, the President is on the right track here.
He is not talking about the old liberal "price control" scheme, which would curtail a lot of drugs from ever coming into the marketplace, thank goodness.

How is a patent NOT free market?  If you develop it, you own it and get to set the terms of its sale.  Right?

So if you invent something, it becomes open source and everyone can copy it? What's the point then of investing g the millions or more, and decades necessary to invent a new drug if your rights to hour creation are thrown out the door?

Another good move by this president.

What move other than a generic statement and the hint of price controls? (Which I would assume you don't support the latter.)
