Senate panel breaks with House, says Russia sought to help Trump win in 2016
By Morgan Chalfant - 05/16/18 12:25 PM EDT

Leaders of the Senate Intelligence Committee said Wednesday that they agree with the intelligence community’s assessment that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election and sought to help President Trump win the White House.

“We see no reason to dispute the conclusions,” Chairman Richard Burr (R-N.C.) said in a statement.

“There is no doubt that Russia undertook an unprecedented effort to interfere with our 2016 elections.”

As part of its investigation into Russian meddling, the committee has for several months been reviewing the January 2017 assessment compiled by top U.S. intelligence officials.

The senators met with former National Security Agency Director Mike Rogers, former CIA Director John Brennan, and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper earlier Wednesday.

  • Ah, the air is so much fresher here...
After all the proof that the Dems are using this Russian collusion fantasy to deflect from their own deep '16 election corruption, who these guys were a part of, they buy lock and stock what Rogers, Brennan, and Clapper fed them.
The Republic is lost.

People need to get their arms around the fact that its not Republican vs Democrat, but the State against the rest of us.

And whether they like it or not, that includes the part of 'us' who also despise Trump.

Good take, gets to the very core of the problem.

I think another way to look at it is there are a lot of Pubs who are really Rats and there are no Rats that are really Pubs.

We may have a majority in name, but in reality we are a minority of our own party. All Congress is doing right now is fighting a holding action until Pres. Trump is out of office.

Just my opinion, but Russia didn't directly help anyone. They dumped a lot of crap out there to create both confusion as well as distrust with the system.

That was their real goal, not getting any specific person elected.

These guys also backed Gina Haspel for CIA.  I don't understand why the Republicans like her, when she is recommended by Clapper, et al.

She’s worked the organization from the ground up and by most accounts, has done very good work along the way.  That carries a lot of weight with the rank and file.

Back to the main topic - IMO, interference doesn’t equate assistance.  I’m quite confident people made their own decisions when they voted and no Slavic bogeyman made anyone do anything against their will.  Hillary had more overall votes in 2008 and 2016, but the system spit her out, because she’s really that bad.
I disagree.  Circle gets the square.

I think if the Russians were going to help anyone, it would have been Hillary.  She is, after all, the one that "helped" them with that uranium deal.

More than likely, Russia played both sides, wanting influence regardless of who was eventually elected. And I would say they are hardly the only nation doing so.
