GOP has few takers for 2020 convention
By Reid Wilson - 05/11/18 06:05 AM EDT

Cities across the country are turning down the opportunity to host the 2020 Republican National Convention, where President Trump is expected to be nominated for a second term.

The cities that have rejected hosting duties insist Trump and today’s divisive politics are not factors in their decisions. They instead cite high security costs and disruptions in the normal flow of business and traffic.

But Trump is almost certainly a factor in some cities’ decisions to opt out.

“Most of the cities that have turned down the RNC are Democratic cities,” said Evan Siegfried, a New York-based Republican strategist.

They'll be inciting their minions to cause $Millions of property damage and put people in the hospital as 'political speech' but only so long as it happens to somebody else's town.

These people want WWIII.

My 'Viking Hunter' High Adventure Alternate History Series is FREE, ALL 3 volumes, at most ebook retailers including Ibooks, Barnes and Noble, Kobo, and more.

In Vol 2 the weapons come out in a winner take all war on two fronts.

Vol 3 opens with the rigged murder trial of the villain in a Viking Court under Viking law to set the stage for the hero's own murder trial.

The Democratic National Committee has been slower to begin its site selection process. The party has sent requests for proposals to eight cities — Atlanta, Birmingham, Denver, Houston, Miami Beach, Milwaukee, New York and San Francisco. Michael Tyler, a DNC spokesman, said the party expects its selection process to take a year.

I'd count out CA cities, because they probably don't want to deal with protestors.  According to the article, three cities have bid.  Two are anonymous, and the third is Charlotte, NC.

Slightly off topic but the Dallas Morning News is trying to lure me back.  I subscribed to their on-line edition for a few weeks ... really for Cowboy news.  This was about 2 years ago.  Now they send me daily e-mails but if I click on any of the stories, it sends me to their Very Special Offers.

Just the headlines show me that they are as bad as CNN.  I always wondered about that.  Dallas' inner city might be liberal but most of the people in the area who subscribe to a newspaper are conservative.

Anyway, their big story about Trump's address to the NRA convention centered on how much it cost the Dallas Police Department.
Against stupidity, the Gods themselves contend in vain.

Why hold the convention in a "big" city at all?

There must be some smaller cities "in the redlands" that have suitable facilities.

Would probably make it much easier to keep the protesters out... or at least subdued.

AG William Barr: "I'm recused from that matter because one of the law firms that represented Epstein long ago was a firm that I subsequently joined for a period of time."

Alexander Acosta Labor Secretary resigned under pressure concerning his "sweetheart deal" with Jeffrey Epstein.  He was under consideration for AG after Sessions was removed, but was forced to resign instead.

Tale of two cities:

Buffalo NY pop. 1950 = 580,000
(blue)       pop. 2016 = 256,000

Scottsdale AZ pop. 1950 =    2,032

Based on the demographics I think it would be an excellent selection as a border city.

Scottsdale has plenty of resorts but no convention center.

Glendale does.

So does Phoenix, with some decent sports venues.  I doubt it will be in the Valley of the Sun.  It's not a pleasant place to hold a convention in the Summer.  Cheap, I imagine.

I hope the RNC isn't stupid enough to hold a convention in a blue state like CA.  CA has shown a willingness to allow security violations if they don't like Republicans.  Look at Berkley.

I think I saw a pretty nice golf course and lots of plush resorts.

I agree.  I'm not a golfer, but it's one of many reasons I live here.

Problem is, June through August is hotter than Heck.  Over 110F most days.

I think Fort Worth would be great.  They do have a convention center.  And, people could sweat there too.
